Sunday shopping?

Just im planing my trip to India in october.
The first day and the two last days I want to stay in Delhi.
Its sunday and monday. Monday I will do a sightseeingtour for the whole day.
So I can only shopping on sunday.
Does the shops open on sunday, specialy the Emporium ( is it the right name? it must be a great shopping centre) and the bazaars?
Whats about the museums, are they open on sunday?
I will do it at the last day, cause I donīt want to hump the presents the two weeks.

Thanks for answer
Gino

All State Emporiums are closed on Sunday. If you are desperate for Knick-Knacks there are plenty of other Emporiums opened though that operate on commission bases with who ever drags you there. Ask any Taxi Driver - he'll gladly take you! They are generally very over priced so be prepared to
haddle and stomp your foot a little or don't go! There is a good book/coin market at Dariya Ganj in Old Delhi on Sunday Mornings, also a dusty Flea Market behind Red Fort ... watch out for the Cow Doo-Doo ! Most of the Museums are opened ... I think Tibet House is closed. Enjoy

Actually I think from what I was reading, sorry don't have my book at work, Museums are open Sundays not Mondays (there is a toilet museum open on Monday), I was planning shopping on Sunday, good way to get to know a place I think but it's now going to have to wait till Monday for the majority

I also am planning to shop on Sunday when I arrive. I am taking one sari, that is about it so if I don't go shopping i will be naked in Delhi.

So Chandni Chowk is closed, connaught place is closed, all state emporiums are closed.....so where does that leave

Don't worry because is sunday. Probably Emporiums are closed on sunday but Delhi is like a big shop and almost everything is open.

the Main Bazar was open on Sunday, althought not all the shops. I was in the same situation with the local clothing, but managed to get some there. btw - it was much cheaper than in the other cities I visited after. I also really liked the Janpur (Tibetian) market on the Connaught place, but I was there on Saturday evening on my way back, so I'm not sure about Sunday... Have fun!

hi imhere0905, I got few baggy pants that u tie in front (Rs 60 each on main bazar) and long sleeves cotton shirts (about same price) that go great together - that's what I was wearing mostly. It was unrevealing and comfortable (and cheap too as you can see I found great Tibetian inspired clothes in Dharamsala later on my trip, so it was added to my "collection". I got salwar cameez on the main bazar on my first day (Rs300) but never wore it Shawls are great to add for the chilly evenings - found everywhere (Rs100-200 each) I wish I didn't bring my western clothes at all, cuz I never wore them but was carrying on my back a lot In every hotel I stayed was 1 day laundry service, and since you don't have to impress much with your wardrobe in these places, I was satisfied with my 2-4 sets (and I'm a fashion junky usually
have a great trip!
