Staying in Paharganj
Hi,
I'm flying to India in two weeks and have a reservation at a hotel in Paharganj, and I was wondering what the situation is like there, and in all of Delhi. I'm not afraid of more bombings or anything like that, but I was wondering if it's a good time to visit, or if I should just save Delhi until the end of my trip (I fly out of there as well). Personally I'm leaning towards staying there, but I was wondering if anyone can think of reasons why I might not want to (are tourist attractions closed? things like that). I'm more interested in comments of people who are actually in Delhi/Paharganj area rather than other people's opinions (no offense meant). Also, unrelated, is it easy to find a US to India plug adapter (not a voltage converter) over there, or should I hunt for one here? |

As I’m staying in the Paharganj area in a in a few weeks I'd also be really interested to hear how things are now following these appalling attacks. I'm booked in at Hotel Relax so any info on whether this particular hotel has been affected by the blasts would also be useful.
Thanks in advance. |

Delhi seems to be plodding on fine, though shaken.

Hi Pookstar, how much is Hotel Relax charging per night now. I paid about 500Rps 2 years back. Anyway it's a decent place to stay for that price .

Hi sego - I've been quoted 1,200 Rps per night (that's pretty steep inflation in 2 years!).

Hi The_blue - did you manage to speak with someone at the hotel since the bombing?
By the way, I got quoted the same for airport pick-up but I'm planning to get my own cab when I land as I from research I believe it will be less than 200 Rs. |

I guess the price is reduced the longer you stay. As I'll only be there for 2 nights I don't really expect to get a discount.
Dennis-M - Do you remember the room number or location of the 'better room' you had?....I might try and request it....... |

I just called fr work (hiding in the washroom, hehe) and "Sanjay" gave me the rate of Rs.1200, like Blue. Now, I'm going to ask for confirmation via email fr my work addy since my first request was via my personal acct. I'll be staying for 4 days, so here's hoping a get a break on the price, too! |

(I'm only arriving after a short flight from Goa in the early evening) Did you find out if the hotel was affected by the bombings in any way? I still can't work out how close the hotel is to where the bomb went off. |

For the next few weeks Pahargunj will be very guarded. (our police is great taking actions after something takes place, I tell you) so you can live there wiht less fear of more explosions.
If explosions is a fear, try delay your plan or avoid Delhi/Mumbai type places.
