Question Splurge restaurant in Delhi

Can anyone recommend a great restaurant in Delhi for us to celebrate our 30th anniversary? This will be our first time in India, we arrive in Delhi and want to celbrate our anniversary and the beginning of our trip by going out for a wonderful dinner in a 'fancy' restaurant. We will be travelling moderately for the most of the trip but thought it would be fun to splurge.

Had thought of the Spice Route at the Imperial Hotel...but would love to hear of some other suggestions....anything really new and innovative?...we are foodies and very much looking forward to the culinary adventure of eating in India. We leave for Delhi in less than two weeks!

No doubt about it, the Bukhara hands down. Take a card with lots of limit and enjoy..

I have also heard wonderful things about the Spice Route, although, a bit pricy. If it's a special occasion, I say go for it!

What kinds of restaurants are Spice Route and Bukhura? I've got a couple of friends in Delhi that I owe a fancy dinner to so would be nice to keep these in mind.

my vote goes to Bukhara in Maurya sheraton. You need to reserve in advance (a call in the morning would do on weekdays).
There is another opening up in CP tomorrow called 'Veda'. It is supposed to be a Indian fusion restaurant.

guerik: Both are Indian restaurants. Bukhara specialises in North Eastern Frontier cusines. Those from Borders of India, Afganistan, and Pakistan. But I find them close to muglai style.
Am I one of those 'friends in Delhi' How do I qualify to join the group?

I like 'Parikrama', the revolving restaurant at the top of a skyscraper off Connaught Place. I've had better food in India and the service is pretty crap but the view's great. It takes about 90 minutes to do a whole revolution (whoah! profound! ) and you get great views of the whole city.

Went there the night before last and a collossal meal with a fair bit of drink cost me somewhere in the region of Rs 800. You could easily spend a lot more if you put your mind to it.

I have been to Parikrma and I agree with Dr Funkenstein that food is not too great, in addition my husband found the revolution a bit nasueating. So take that into account too.

Vinay, I think you meant North-Western Frontier. Yes, the Bukhara is consistently rated among the top restaurants of India.

Vinay: it's that couple who live in chanakyapuri (sp?) and let me stay with them and experience a bit of home every couple of months on my last trip

I daresay you might qualify too though - you're a pretty good host!!

If you are heading to Bukhara book atleast one day in advance, they like you dress "properly"
There are many other great places to have a formal dinner. Can you specify exactly what kind of food(cuisine) you are looking forward to?

hiya...spice route is south east asian cuisine, its pretty good, though its on the pricier side, but well worth it. Another plus is its at a beautiful hotel in CP...Imperial. Their Sunday brunch buffet is pretty awesome too...you can sort of view the place at http://www.theimperialindia.com/home.htm

Bukhara is at the maurya sheraton, close to dhaula kuan on SP marg. The food is very very good and the cuisine is north western frontier..a mix of tandoori and afghani. Its a very very pricey place, but yeah the food is very good.

Lots of other nice restaurants around delhi now, do let me know if you want any further info...yup I'm a foodie!

cheers :-)

We love Chor Bizarre in the Hotel Broadway, Old Delhi. Fab atmosphere and magic food! Or the Imperial-oh what a hotel! Only eaten snacks & had drinks there but if I could afford it, I'd be there in a blink! Have a great time!

Yes the Spice Route is very good. Mav e rick have you eaten at the "Chinese" inner circle CP near the Competent Auto? The best I have eaten so far outside China. Try the Bird's nest soup & the sliced duck.

It's not exactly expensive (though we've spent a lot of money there in the past) but Karims is fantastic. If you want to splurge they do a whole leg of lamb/goat (I can't tell the difference) in the tandoor for you and it's so so so good. They get very good reviews too.
They have a fancier outlet somewhere in South Delhi I think, no idea where though!

Just found their website - http://www.karimhoteldelhi.com/
