Single woman travelling Delhi

Hi, I'm new to the forum and really enjoy reading it. I am currently in Bangalore and would like to travel to Delhi and surrounding places for roughly a week. It's my first time in India and I don't know how safe it is to travel there alone. What would be the best option? I have inquired at various travel agents regarding organised group tours etc, which apparently are not available. They do offer to organise hotels and a driver, which I am not really sure about. Any advice??

Thanks
Irene

Hi Irene, like you i'm planning on travelling on my own and having trawled IM extensively i have read that as long as you are sensible and trust your gut you should be fine.
and having experienced the country before getting to delhi i'm sure you'll be fine, so although i cant offer you any direct advice having not done it yet thought i'd say go for it, i am.
havent made it to india yet but plan to within a couple of weeks, and am sure we'll both love it

Wink

I have traveled solo to Delhi many times and will be back again next month. I have stayed everywhere from the upscale Metropolitan Nikko to Nirula's, to Ram Nagar and never had a problem. I actually found Ram Nagar "safer" feeling to walk around in later in the evening than the area around Nirula's. My "worst" problems, if you could even call them that, were with taxi drivers. Never ever admit that this is your first time in India or Delhi and always try to appear like you know what you're doing and you'll be fine.

Hi Irene
As you are already in bangalore for sometime, it won't be a problem for you in delhi.... don't be apprehensive.....just take it easy .....a lot of girls are travelling these days alone....if you want to see in and around delhi ...just take conducted tours operated by Delhi tourism ...they are quite safe...

Dont worry Irene, you will be fine there. but take a suggestion, plz dont talk to strangers and dont eat and drink with any stranger. Thats all i can say, wish u best of luck, and by da way, u didnt told when ur planning to travel there?

U know , the best option is to stay at good hotel and they will arrange everything for you. and as far as i know, they do sreening check and crimal record check of all there employees before hiring them. SO GO AHEAD and ENJOY!!

I lived in Delhi by myself. Use the same common sense you'd use in any big city (e.g., dress conservatively - by Indian standards - and don't go wandering around in unfamiliar places alone at night, and so on). You'll be just fine. I loved living there.
