Yes, actually I do get suits (Western style) made at Raymonds - nice, Merino wool, fabulously tailored, for about $300. The same thing would cost $1,200, at least, in the States. At the higher-end stores, you can find some really wonderful Indian tailors, many of them trained in London. The tailor at Raymonds in Bangalore is especially good.

However... if the tailoring goes bad, it's a horrible experience.

Raymonds in Ernakulam does an absolutely amazing job with gentlemen's suits. I loved the suit they made for me... until a ( ) poodle named Jake attacked the leg of my trousers one day. I will never forgive that dog.

Raymonds in Chennai, on Anna Salai, I cannot recommend.

Downside: much much less English signage than in Delhi. It helps to know a few Gujarati words, esp. numbers.
Hi, Which shops and areas do you recommend in Ahmedabad? We are planning on going there as well.

Karol Bagh may be a good choice for you. We were there with my brother a few years ago and it was a good place, my brother returned there this year and sait there is still a lot of good shops. Now you can buy in hypermarkets too but during my last visit I haven't seen any so I can't make any reccommendations.
