Shopping in Delhi

Hi I'll be visiting Delhi in Oct-Nov timeframe and was wondering if any of you have any recommendations to any indoor shopping malls? Or is there a place I can get western clothing but with an indian touch. Such as the kurta's etc you see here in the states!

I would appreciate any info.

Thanks in advance,

CP

Not indoors and more of a bazaar than a mall, Dilli Haat is a must. All kinds of stuff from all over. Fun.

I loved Dilli-Haat. It's not a mall - more like an upmarket market if that makes sense! You pay a small fee to get in so you don't get bothered by touts or beggars. They have lovely things and it's a very relaxed, laid-back shopping atmosphere. You don't generally have to bargain for things either. There are some nice cafes too. If you go, try the Nepalese Momos - they're delicious!

As others suggestion Dilli haat you find ethinic wear Kurta's you will get with good quality one.Its South Delhi, opposite INA market, its welll known place,it wont be problems to find.
I would sugges few shops Globus,Snowwhite at South Extension II shops ,to get western wear, what we call now Indo westen, tops, kurthis.its near Dilli haat only.
You can find Karol bagh also good place for shopping ladies wear.
AC shopping malls you find Noida,Gurgaon,East Delhi.

Just find a tailor if you want Western clothing made to fit for a very reasonable cost . Indoor shopping in India is brutal (unless you're there during the summer and it's air conditioned) due to it's scattered layout and haphazard planning. It's all about the crowded and crazy outdoor markets at night.

Talking Places to shop in delhi.

Ok, in delhi, there are many many places to shop. Heres the list :-

Ansal Plaza (South Delhi) - Indoor, Aircon Mall (Near South Ex) Got Mcdonalds here. Most brands, clothes etc available. The non branded clothes are much expensive here. Branded things are same everywhere like nike, Reebok, Lee etc.

South Ex Market (South Delhi) - Great shopping, Outdoor, All brands available. Go to Nalli for indian clothing. Got Mcdonalds here. Reasonable but usually crowded.

Monastry (North Delhi) - Situated near the banks of river yamuna, this place has T-shirts and jeans to offer at much chearper price. Worth a visit only if you have time. This is indeed the market owned mostly by tibetians. Very nice people.

Kamla Nagar (North Delhi)- The hub of Delhi university. Stundents hangout here. Outdoor. You get everything at reasonable prices. Got Mcdonalds here. Its Crowded too. Wanna eat momos here than go to either Belle momos or Momos Point. Shops are really good.

Karol Bagh (Central Delhi) - Crowded, very very crowded. You dont necessarily wanna go there. Its cheap but the the stuff may be duplicate. Not original. Place is not good. You can get into trap of touts and but its a big market for indian traders. You get everything here too. McDonalds is here as well.

Rajouri Garden Market (West delhi) - Dont go there. Its crowded. Too crowded. Time waste. Nothing much. I dont care even if they have a McDonalds or not. Just a crappy market.

G.K. Part 1 (South Delhi) - Not been there ever, though i live in delhi. Heard its a very good, decent people, Market of the richie richs. You get everything Here.

C.P (Central Delhi) - This is the mother of all markets. You cant miss this. All and i mean all brands have showrooms here. TGIF, Ruby's tuedays, McDonalds, Dominos are just a few eateries. Though you can also get some real good indian food. There a small but pretty old place by the name Anand restaurant opposite to janpath market. You will find the best ever indian veg , nonveg spicy food here. That too very very inexpensive. Infact i was there just an hour ago . For cheapest clothes, go to Janpath. For Pirated CDs, DVDs, playstation, xbox, pc games etc go to Palika bazaar. Its heaven for kids. you can get DVDs of any movie for only a Rs. 100.

Dilli Haat (South Delhi) - Now this place is different. Very unique. Must visit. You will find things here that you havent even thought about. Even im amazed to see thigns there sometimes. Its actually a hub where things from other states are displayed. Dont miss the momos and fruit beer at the Momo Mia. They charge Rs. 15 these days for entry. They usually have some program, dances, things like that in evenings.

Gurgaon - (Not in delhi) Half an hours drive from the airport takes you to Gurgaon. The posh suburb of delhi. Place is very neat and clean. Atleast the part worth visiting is. You will find and array of indoor malls and movie theaters. Mcdonalds here as well

Hey thanks so much for this list! I am so excited to be able to actually shop in some of these places! We usually go to Karol Bagh and like you said its pretty crowded! I didn't think Delhi had a lot to offer but I guess you have to really be a local to know the hangouts!

Thanks a bunch!

CP = Connaught Place, GK = Greater Kailash

The only indoor malls I've been to have been very westernised, so they're probably not the ideal place to find nice Indian clothes, but the suggestions everyone's given so far are all great

I'm surprised no one's mentioned my much-loved Sarojini Market yet! That was my favourite place to shop when I lived in Defense Colony (south Delhi).
