Shopping for Statues in Delhi

Looking for a Hanuman and maybe a Lakshmi for my garden. a meter or under in heighth, I'd say.

I'll be checking it in as baggage- whatever the cost, it's a pittance compared to shipping- learned that the hard way!

. . . any suggestions?

Brass, bronze, stone, marble? Aged &/or with patina? Sundar Nagar might be a good place to start ......

You look like the kind of fellow who might like these, too (from a very old post by our old friend iyou:

I bring god tiles. They're totally unknown outside of india and make excellent gifts. the only hassle is the weight. buy them at plumbing or ceramic tile shops. you probably know that already. Rs 25 each, more or less.

No locations in Delhi, but I've been able to locate them from a "blind start" in Calcutta and Bombay by asking someone to write "god tiles" in the local script, which I then gave to a rikshaw driver. You'll generally wind up on a street where plumbing fixtures are sold. Don't know exactly why that is. In Bombay there was a whole side of a street filled with shops specializing in god tiles. It was amazing. If you want the name of the road there I can provide it. Do let me know.

I still have the visiting card (business card) I picked up from the tile shop I visited in Calcutta. It's called Modern Sanitation, and the address is 2, College Street, Calcutta 12. They have a nice selection there.

Here's a commercial site based in Delhi which is fun to poke around to find out what sort of stuff is available.

I've never used its services so can't vouch for it or recommend it.
The prices do include shipping.

Usually I buy my stuff a Cottage Industries ,though my bronze Nataraja is a piece I commissioned and watched being made on a visit to Tamil Nadu in the '80's

Behind jama masjid in old delhi there is a brass market. Pieces are priced per gram and it's a good deal. You might consider this if you are looking for brass.
Best stone I've seen all over India has also been in mamallapuram, you can basically get anything design you like down there.
