Shipping from India (Delhi)?

Does anyone have any recommendations -- ideally a specific shipping company -- for shipping something from India (Delhi) to U.S.? Don't need it to be fast (too expensive) and am probably going to ship smaller items, but may want to send one or two big items (i.e. furniture). Thanks for any help.

Would like to see an answer to this also?

Also, on the shipping in side? What did people have shipped in and how bad was customs? Did they have to bribe or pay a huge tariff?

This is hella late, but I may as well put something down for future reference.
Am: thanks for not creating another thread

I'd reccomend OCS, I used them in Kolkata, I shipped a 12"*12"*12" 3 lb box with them (outsourced via DHL, ewww) with a 48 hr transit time to Victoria for only about $60. Lucky for me, DHL didn't screw up (suprise suprise) But, OCS doesn't seem to have an office in Delhi.

I also used IndiaPost, all 3 boxes arrived through air-post within 2-3 weeks without incident.

Regardless, assuming your goods are gifts that have no commercial value and are not for resale, make it PAINSTAKINGLY CLEAR on the decleration forum that the items are "GIFTS - NOT FOR RESALE, NCV NCV NCV." Tell the receiver that if the delivering side tries to charge/duty/processing fee on the delivery to refuse it and appeal to customs, as the items are "GIFTS - NOT FOR RESALE, NCV NCV NCV" and should not be taxed (in Canada at least).
Otherwise, tell the truth on the form unless you want a file to be opened with your respective customs agency resulting you going through secondary every time you clear customs. And believe me, it happens.

Everything outbound has to clear customs, plus the shipping company HAS to go through the contents of your box but I didn't witness the former process and I didn't have to slip anyone a fifty in order to ship my faux-gold bangles and 20 rupee necklaces that I got for my friend for her birthday.

Wink

I have shipped parcels home to the US several times from India going to a regular GPO and sending the package Seapost (cheaper rate). You have to have the package sewn up in cloth and sealed, etc., which is fun to watch actually. The parcels arrived safely in about 2 months and I have never had to pay any customs duties. I ship often from Thailand as well using the same process (without the cloth) and even though some of these were opened by customs I was never charged anything.

I shipped a large box to Arizona from Delhi using FedEx. It took about a week to arrive, everything was intact and fine. It was mostly extra clothing/toiletries and inexpensive souvenirs. The Sikh gentlemen in the Delhi office were very kind and helpful.

Good, so there is a FedEx in Delhi. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Strongly suggest using DHL or Fed Ex as they can track your parcel. Using "regular mail" is hit or miss.
