Safe to travel from airport to Noida around midnight?
An American couple would arrive in Delhi at 10:30 PM, probably out of the airport after midnight. They have to go to Noida. They are not going to a hotel, but to a friend's house. The friend is already out of the country and will return two days after them. So he cannot help them, but a watchman will be there to let them in.
Questions: Is it safe for them to take a pre-paid cab from the airport to Noida around 1AM? Would it better for them to book their own cab from here, and if so, who should they call? Or should they just wait the night out at the airport or a nearby hotel coffee shop and go in the morning? Note: They have been to Noida before and know how to get to the house. They are not worried about getting lost, only about "road safety" issues at 1AM. |

sir it is very much safe as it is the busiest route..
cabs do jobs very sincerely around air-port as it is their earning for daily bread.. Last edited by Dilliwala : Nov 18th, 2008 at 02:55. Reason: merge posts |

Manreet_16: Thanks. We too want to believe the best, but here is what I found in US State dept advisory (http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p.../cis_1139.html) :
"The murder and robbery of an Australian woman traveling alone in a pre-paid taxi contracted at the New Delhi airport in early 2004 demonstrates the need to exercise caution." Rather than theoretical debates, I would like advice from people who know actual ground realities. |

This is an old thread which I would like to bring to readers' attention again, esp to women travelling alone.
You cannot rely on prepaid taxis being a safe choice at night. |

The murder case by a prepaid-taxi driver a few years ago. I was referring to ladies travelling alone, though.
http://www.theage.com.au/articles/20...199362906.html It does not mean it is unsafe for everyone, it just means that what one thought is fool-proof safe for everyone is not so. There are still drivers stupid enough to think they could get away with robbery and murder, even when their ride and the name of the client is written on the receipt, with a copy at the office. The police got the murderer within hours with no trouble at all... Last edited by machadinha : Dec 4th, 2007 at 08:50. Reason: merged posts |

I would be slightly more careful about going to Noida than within Delhi in the middle of the night.
I hasten to add, not because of the taxi drivers, but because Noida (which is in UP) is preceived to be be slightly more unsafe than areas within Delhi. |

I am traveling to Noida in January. I am staying for a few months and now I feel nervous. My main concern has been getting from the airport to Noida. I am planning on staying in at a hotel in ND and having them arrange the transportation during the day. But what does " Noida is slightly more unsafe" mean?

More than safety issue; it is very difficult to get pre-paid taxi to Noida. Since pre-paid taxis by Delhi Traffic Police are available only within Delhi police.
I travel within India quite frequently and many times land up at domestic airport at odd hour. While the pre-paid taxi fare upto Noida-Delhi border is only 300 odd. The cab-walla will ask for ridiculous amounts like 800-1000 for further 5-6 KM to my home in Noida. \N Quote:
But as I said in my last message, you may have difficulty in finding transportation at night. \N Last edited by machadinha : Dec 4th, 2007 at 11:32. Reason: merged posts |

For some other parts of UP, I would remove the slightly from my post. I only mention this because the culture does tend to spillover to Noida. |
