Rewari to Delhi at midnight: bus? autorickshaw? taxi?
Our Shatabdi Express from Jaipur to Delhi got cancelled, which means that we either have to take an earlier train (which shortens our time in Jaipur.... boo!) or take a bus (which will probably take a bit of organising once we arrive in Jaipur).
We found an alternative train which gives us slightly more time in Jaipur than did the Shatabdi; but it doesn't go all the way to Delhi. It goes to Rewari, arriving about midnight. Now, it isn't far from Rewari to Delhi... 58 km, the "distance" site tells me. What it doesn't tell me are, will there be plenty of buses at midnight? Or, will we be able to get an autorickshaw? I guess we can swallow hard and fork out for a taxi, but how much would this be likely to cost? Anyone who has done this journey, or knows the area? Thanks for all suggestions! |

I would not suggest getting down at Rewari at middle of night, its not pleasant for people like me and I can only imagine the position of a white person over there...
Its completely dark, no street lights nothing, the bus depot has no buses. You might have to come to National Highway and flag down a local bus, but that would a major challenge. The best way is to board a direct bus from Jaipur. even the normal roadways buses would be much better then getting down at Rewari in middle of night. Infact you do not need to make elaborate arrangements. Just go to the bus station and board any bus for delhi, they will hardly take 5-6hours or ever less for Delhi. |

Wow! Well, that's not the answer I was hoping to get, but you sure painted a vivid picture, and, I assure you, your point is well-taken! I guess I don't even have to ask another question, which occurred to me after I sent this post, and that is "Should we just stay overnight at Rewari and catch a morning bus?" From your reply, Rewari doesn't sound like much of a place to spend the night! So I don't think I'll bother asking about that (and I was just about to try googling "hotels in Rewari"!)
I think your advice is sound... we'll just go down to the bus station in Jaipur as darkness falls, and take the first bus that is going to Delhi. Thanks for your help! |

Is the Haridwar Mail an option?
Jaipur 23:05, (Old) Delhi 05:25. |

Hi, Steven! Yes, it is, certainly... but only as a last resort.
We have an offer of accommodation in Delhi for that night in a private home, and, naturally enough, that's more tempting than another night on a mail train! (Especially since this is right near the end of our two-and-a-bit week trip - from Delhi we fly to Bangalore, as suggested originally by you, and then home -- and we will have already spent a total of six nights (not consecutive, thankfully!) on trains. I love Indian trains, but it's nice, sometimes, to see a real bathroom.....) Rewari sounds less-than-charming from the description above; have your travels taken you there? |

I've not been to Rewari, and have just crossed it off my 'places to visit' list. ![]() |

Steven Ber on a bus? A BUS!!!!!! No, I'm sorry..... that's just too much to get one's head around! Say you didn't mean it! I mean, all these people watching this thread.... think of how they'll feel if they see you have defected to the "enemy"! Next I'll be reading that the Pope has converted to Jainism!
I think that, for you, a week or two in downtown Rewari is indicated, just to cleanse your mind of such ideas. |
