Reverse Question: Train Station to Airport

Hi y'all, you offer some great advice, and I'm grateful for all the help everyone offers.

I'm trying to get from Agra to the airport and out in one day.
How much time should I allow myself to get from Nizzamudin station to the domestic airport, if I'm using one of the prepaid cabs? Or should I try the New Delhi station? Does it make a difference? This would be around 10AM for an afternoon flight.

Thanks for you help!

What time does your flight depart? Unless it is on a weekend 10AM is peak rush hour. From either of the stations it will take minimum 50 minutes. Traffic jams are frequent near the airport these days.

It will take you less time to get out of Nizamuddin than New Delhi owing to the fact that its a much smaller station and does not have the CP traffic surrounding it...

I would advise about 50 minutes as well...

Allmost all Agra trains are scheduled for/from Nizamuddin Station.

OP wants to go prepaid: Does Nizzamuddin have a prepaid taxi stand? probably not - too small.

Yes NZM has a prepaid taxi service.
Yellow top Maruti van taxis, and autorickshaws.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I guess I'm just trying to figure out the best way to do it. It could take a pre-paid, or if anyone has any better options for getting to the airport, I'm open. My situation is that the train arrives @ 10:15 AM, plane leaves domestic terminal @ 12:30PM. Is this enough time? If not, I can take a 1:30PM flight instead. I just keep hearing that it takes so long to get through the airport.

Thanks!

Hi,

Cant trust Indain Railways to be on schedule and you need at least 60-90 Mins to reach Domestic airport from NZM during that time of the day.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I guess if the rail system can't be depended on to get me there on time, does anyone whink it may be worth it to rent a car from Agra to the Delhi airport? If so, how would that work?

How about a bus.....the journey time is small as such so it should be too tiring plus then u can leave even earlier..

You do not need to worry about a problem at the airport, since the problematic part is at the international terminal, not the domestic one.

It is definitely worth in terms of peace of mind, as well as less hassle with the different means of transportation that you require on that particular day. You are not telling what you are doing before you leave for Delhi, so I do not know what to advice there. However, you do have the option of renting a car in the morning of the day and getting around wherever you want to go in Agra, and then off to the Airport. A taxi ( nothing fancy, basic non-AC, like Ambassador or Maruti van) from Agra to the Airport should not be more than 2000 Rupees which is around US $50. If you add some traveling in Agra itself or some waiting time it could make a few hundred Rupees more. But it should not be more than Rs 2400 for the whole day, including airport drop.

You get the car wherever you arrive, be it at the station or outside of the hotel where you stay. (If you ask at a hotel itself, you pay considerably more). You will be approached by plenty of people in Agra, just mention to someone looking capable that you need a car and someone will propose some offer. Since you know the price, you act right away like someone who knows exactly what he wants, in other words, do not ask for the price, but say that it is this much that you will pay (Rs 2000 for airport drop). If they laugh at you or complain how much more it is, do not budge, insist, and if they do not give in, in the end walk away. Someone then will come forward and do it for your price (it is a competitive reasonable and realistic price, they just want more for their own commission). In the bargaining I would aks for an Ambassador car. They are the most reliable cars in India, and come along with good drivers.

Another option is to ask at a Tours and Travel Office, wherever you see one. They would find you car with driver without a problem. This way would be less hassle in bargaining. But the other way could be easy too.

When you get your car, do not allow a second person to come along with the driver. Send him away. They are generally a nuisance.

After reading your first post again, I notice that you would have to start early from Agra. Obviously you would have to arrange your car the day before then.

Thank you to all for your help! It is nice to know that these options exist. I plan to see Agra and its sights the previous day, and spend the night, then head out early the next AM, giving plenty of time to get to my flight. I'll try arranging it through my hotel in Agra first, or the Tours and Travel office.

Again, thanks. Its nice to have an easy plan.

The 10:15 arrival starts it's journey in Chennai, and even though it's one of the more reliable trains (a Rajdhani) it could still easily run late.

There are 2 more reliable train options that should get you to Nizamuddin in time.

Train 4211 starts it's journey at Agra Cant daily at 06:00 and gets to Nizamuddin at 09:30 (CC, 2S.)

And a late train the previous night to stay in a Delhi hotel.

Train 2001 (Not Fridays), Agra Cant 20:30, New Delhi 22:30 (reliable Shatabdi train, EC, CC.)

On Fridays only, Train 2001A, Agra Cant 20:43, New Delhi 23:05 (EC, CC.)
