retail electronics components in Delhi

I know, perhaps a strange question, but does anyone know some places in Delhi which sell retail electronics components (transformers, switches etc)?

Im thinking of getting some stuff i need for back home if its cheap.

Thank you

Matt

dirt cheap at nehru place, remember to bargain and not get conned into getting fake stuff. Plenty of cheap original components available though.

India still repairs things so you will be stonished at the range of componants on offer!!
Even in a little town, you'll have a "fixer wallah" and they can put anything back together and they have a fair ranges of swiches tranformers relays etc etc.
The mind boggles at what you will find in a market like Nerhu Place

The best place to shop for these kind of stuff is the Lala Lajpat Rai market near Chandni Chowk. Check out the quality as components of all qualities are sold. If you are looking for a transformer ask for "Guru" brand. I dont know what kind of switches are you looking for. If it is of the rocker or toggle types you will get it here & if they are for domestic power application check out the electrical goods market called Bhagirath place next to this market.
After concluding your business go over to Parathawala Gali & eat stuffed parathas but give the pickle a miss.
Good luck.

Yes, agree with Jyotirmoy, Lala lajpat rai market according to some is the asia's biggest elctronic component market. Next to it Bhagirath Place, which also has some electronic component shops.

Hey Nick you've got a Bose dealer in Chennai!!

Indian speakers are not the new light weight things we see in the west but I was told that though heavy and bulky they produce a great sound!!

...I was just thinking about the ones one hears on the street.

i believe that, if one has only one cubic inch to spare for speakers then Bose speakers are great. Otherwise they are over-rated 'lifestyle' products rather than hifi.

Word has it, OTOH, that Bose PA speakers are good.

Bose made fantastic stage speakers. Members of a certain band known for their fetish for pure sound were bowled over trying out the speakers at the company's premises. These were however driven by Marshall amps.

There is one grand old man in Shankar market near CP who still makes the speaker as per the customer's preferences and usage. These speakers are bulky and heavy as they still use, wooden boxes/cabinates made as per specifications and after calculation to fit the woofer, sub-woofer and tweeters. They also make the speaker systems for Home theatre (5:1 channel or so). I've also seen their amplifier which was good. The best things is they cost almost 10% of the Boses of the world and I know many who still swear by them.

While I was in Uni, we used to have a walkman or a car streo in a cabinate with a low cost amplifier with the two speakers kept in the two corners of our hostel room turned upside down looking into a pair of earthen pots for 'great sound'.

Ha Vinay now isn't that strange, the guy who told me about Indian speaker being so good, went on to rave about the sound system at the Mickey Mouse rataurant Puri.

Where the owner had created a great sound system using upside down speaker in earthen pots!!

Maybe the owner is one of your old colledge buddies
