Reputable & Reasonable Shops
Hello,
Arriving in New Delhi around mid-December and immediately want to purchase Sari and Salwar Kameez for wedding in Nagpur 8 days later. Plan to shop immediately to get items sewn while traveling Rajasthan before wedding. Also hoping to purchase gold ring for husband. His wedding band was damaged and he's requested a new one ... from India, of course. If you know of shops that are both reputable AND reasonable in price, I would love to get names/addresses/phone/website (if available). Thank you. ScarletLSG |

It will help others reply if you indicate which part of Delhi you will probably be staying in. There are sure to be decent options closeby.

We are staying at the Maidens Hotel in North Delhi ... 7, Sham Nath Marg.
We will have car/driver though at our disposal, so traveling to a highly recommended shop is not out of the question!! Thanks. ScarletLSG |

You will find lots of Saree shops in Chandni Chowk which is not very far from your hotel.
For the gold ring you may visit Mehrasons and Trivubandas in Janpath, very reputed establishments. |

If you want a shopping experience that is more like a western one, the Westside department stores seem to be all over Delhi (and other cities) http://www.mywestside.com/index.asp
They had some nice salwar kameez last year, although they are ready-made, not just fabric, so maybe not what you are looking for. |

Thanks Vireya,
We'll check into the Westside shops, though are definitely up for shopping in the more local shops!! Perhaps if we get overwhelmed, we'll head for a Westside style store!! ScarletLSG |

Sorry, my mistake.
Click on search, top right menubar, and within it, click on advanced search. In the 'search by keyword' type in 'delhi+shopping' in the drop down below that select 'thread titles only' click 'search now' at the bottom. Quite a few old threads show up. |

I believe the Cottage Industries Emporium on Janpath ,New Delhi does both readymade and tailoring service.
Also the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan at the Regal Building. A previous thread recommended 'Fab India' but I think it's in Greater Kailash.(South Delhi-which has excellent shopping!) Having said all that -there are any number of establishments selling saris and salwar kameez but the only way to ensure that quality and price are aligned is to shop in person! |

There is a road starting from Cannaugt Place where all teh giverment emporiums are situated. Great items and reasonable rate. Try them out.....
Someone from Delhi may point out the name of the road.
