renting or hotel?
Hello
Im spending 2 or 3 months in Delhi, and am wondering if its more logical and psycholoically/financially practical to stay in a hotel or rent a room (considering i have a very small budget). Thanks for any advice |

renting is better. get paying guest accomodation. mostly its cheaper and its furnished. i rented a PG appartment in calcutta for Rs150 per day (Rs4500 per month)....

Renting would be better, or some lodge would also be gud. as people generally want to give thier rooms for much longer time. some even ask for advance deposits.

advanced deposits should be no harm. get it in a contract. you will get it back when you leave. in general you will be saving money...

Okay...wait read your profile and why your coming to Delhi.
Finding a short term rental, or a Paying Guest accomodation is better. Since you'll be volunteering with an NGO, you should try to ask them for housing leads. It might not be a bad idea to find a shared flat if this is your the first time through. Staying at a hotel for 3 months is expensive and not that great. Not many options for people on a budget. A woman was renting a room at the YWCA for 20,000 Rs a month--the price of a swank, furnished 2-3 bedroom flat in Def-Col. My co-worker stays in a shared room at a woman's PG in Saket for 7000 Rs a month. PG's usually include utilities and food. You can share a room or have a space to yourself, not unlike a college dormitory. There are PG's for working women, and ones in posh neighborhoods. Also try around universities like DU or JNU campus. Around the latter, there are quite a few PG's in Munirka Village. |
