Recommend a good dhaba in Delhi
I have folks coming from Mumbai who have heard oh so much about Delhi's famous dhabas. I have been told to search these gems and ensure we hog there.
Me being clueless...appealing to you guys for help. The folks in question are not high-maintenance, uppity types and really mean dhaba when they say dhaba. So no A/C places called XYZ ka Dhaba. Any joint on the Delhi-Agra Highway is also welcome. So any suggestions? Please give directions too ![]() |

Don't expect a real higway style dhaba in Delhi. Try Rajinder's dhaba in the local shopping centre in Safderjung enclave.

Kake da is more like a restaurant than dhaba, food wise I rate it higher than Rajinder's dhaba.

Thanks guys. I had heard of these two but the folks want to sit out n stuff...no restaurent. Any nook in the corner place would also do. Do you know any high-way dhaba on Delhi-Agra road? They are going to Agra so could try that one out.

There are some good Dhabas on the highway...one of them being Pappu ka Dhaba..
By the way there is not much use in taking recommendations of Highway Dhaba as there are many with similar names..and only frequent travelers know the good ones... As a rule of thumb you have to stop at a place where you see maximum number of cars.. About Dhaba in Delhi, try http://delhi.burrp.com & http://eoid.wordpress.com/ I have reviewed few of them, you can try Chicken Planet, Prem Dhaba, Sat Guru Dhaba, Karim at Jama Masjid, Jawahar hotel near karim's, Sethi in Rajouri Garden. You can find my reviews and locations of all the above mentioned eateries except of Jawahar on burrp. |

hmmm...
Try the parantha waala at Moolchand; its not on Delhi-Agra highway, but just barely a km away from Ashram; take left from the moolchand flyover (while going from Lajpat nagar towards SouthEx) and ask for this parantha wala. if you are hungry and don't want to cook in the middle of the night, this is the place for you myte....Moolchand parantha wala is very famous in delhi ....not a/c type restaurant, in fact u won't even find the place to sit unless u don't mind sitting on the footpath or your car/bike. and if you want 'the real dhaba' experience, take NH-24, come towards, Garhmukteshwar, approx..80 kms from Delhi and you'll find plenty of dhaba offering quality stuff with greenry surrounding you

No one has mentioned the famous Murthal Dhabas on NH-1 near Sonepat. Numerous there and you will find hundreds and hundreds of Delhi Cars and Punjab Taxis parked there. They regularly see customers from North Delhi. Ask any truck driver in India and he will tell you where Murthal is.

That would be a great idea!!!
They have been in business for a long time and have a bit of history. Turn back the clock and this is what Kake ka looked like in 1970... It's on the left and called Kake ka Hotel, why hotel . http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...92/ppuser/2115In the later 70's the place was spiffed up a bit, seems like fewer people living on the roof...http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...93/ppuser/2115 In 2005 IM member Lightning made a little video from the same location as my old B&W photos... The place now had a second story and flashing lights... http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...user/2544/sl/l Am still hoping to get back to the Kake ka for a modern day photo, and will make a point of taking them a couple of 8x10 glossies of the vintage shots when I do.
