its up to your aims for your trip. your going see all the sights. But may be you won't get a chance to see the quiet/ofbeat moments which you enjoy by slowing down

Wow. That looks like an awful lot of time spent in a car.

For me that would be way too much of my vacation spent travelling. I need at least one day off between travel days or I don't enjoy myself. But that's me!

It looks like too much time rushing around for me to have any fun - I'd take out a few destinations and let myself have a bit of extra time in a few places.
I'd also take trains a few times - it doesn't look like budget would be much of an issue so you could probably afford 1AC, which looks quite comfortable (can't say I've tried it though). The train will give you a chance to meet some locals, have a walk around while you're getting to your destination (I suffer from "numb-bum" on long car/bus journeys, never a problem on the train) and get a bit of sleep while you're travelling too. If you can get some of your travel done while you're asleep it also means more time for fun at your destination.
Feel free to ignore my train-praise if you're set on the car, but I would consider slowing down a bit.

By the way how are you getting from Udaipur to Pushkar here? It's not a short journey.

09 MAR : PUSHKAR - JAIPUR (135 KMS, 03-04 HRS DRIVE)

Slow down a bit, smell the roses ,,,,,,,,,,,

You'll forever be thinking about where you're going tomorrow instead of enjoying where you are today,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thanks for all your responses! I must admit i was sort of afraid that would be the case.

Any suggestions on what we should avoid?

I agree that it would be better not to travel almost every day. You will experience a lot more of what is happening around you if you rest a day.

Some suggestions -

While I have not been to Chittogarh it seems that you will spend a lot of time travelling to and from Udaipur. If you give Chittogarh a miss you would have 2 extra days elsewhere.

Also, I did Jodphur - Udpaipur direct easily in a day by car with driver, including Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh. But this would mean missing Mt Abu.

The question for you will be what things you really want to see. But missing Chittogarh and Mt Abu would give you a few extra days.

We just got back from Rajasthan.Hiring the car is a good idea. Bargain hard and take no crap. Check the car. Ensure you see the spare tyre and remember U are the boss. Don't let the driver pick up other people. The driver should drop you at a hotel. He may try to charge you another fare to find the hotel- its bullshit. When you pay him(especially if he plays games) turn your back and walk into the hotel. Food and accomodation for him is his problem. Don't be a mug and please don't spoil it for other travellers by giving a tip.Make sure when you bargain that the price includes everything. As much as I love ambassadors, the indicas and marutis are more reliable. You will have to give some of the fare so he can buy fuel, but do not pay the rest until you get to destinations. Prices I got were pushkar-jaiselmer 3,800. Jaiselmer - Udaipur 3,800. Udaipur-Delhi was 7000. Insist they pick U upon time. Don't let the driver choose your hotel. AlsoI am sure I paid too much- it is indeed a buyer's market so shop around. Beats the hell out of trains, buses etc if in a hurry.

We recently went to Chittogarh for the first time, Although it was only planned as an overnighter to break up the Bundi/ Udaipur stretch we found it a very interesting place.
We had a full afternoon & morning exploring (mostly the Fort), It covers appx 7 square km's & is well worth using the services of a guide, I doubt you would get any understanding from it otherwise.

But if times short, you got to draw the line someplace,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Add Kumblgarh delete Mt. Abu and CHITTORGARH

I enjoyed Mt Abu but if time is short, the Ranakpur Jain temple is certainly more finely crafted then the temples in Mt. Abu. I was fascinated by the Kumbhalgarh fort which is only 2 hours from Ranakpur. There is a thread comparing the two forts, if you can only go to one Kumbhalgarh won out.

When your driver takes to a hotel, he wants you to negotiate. My driver thank me for negotiating hard for my room. He can't, he will see the hotel people in the future and they give him a dormitory to stay in and free food.
