Women only cab service

Hi - I think there is a new taxi service in delhi that is run by women for women. Might be worth having a dig around for the numbers, I think there was a bit of press about it recently. Otherwise Delhi cabs are pretty decent.

Yes, it's really that easy.

No, you don't call them - two of em have counters outside just like the govt's Pre-paid service.

Oh, really? This is something I have not read yet.

And I'm also interested in hearing more about the women's taxi as mentioned above, even if it's infeasible for me.

Hi - a quick google search yields a few results.

Yeah, well, google results would not yield people's personal anecdotal experiences necessarily. Several articles that are very recent say that it's for commuters or that it will be implemented by the end of the year. They don't mention numbers to call or policies or hours of operation. So, yeah, question still stands.

See posts #35 and #108 of this thread, it looks as if Easy Cabs are one of the companies with a counter.

Also read the threads mentioned at the bottom of post #1.

About the all-women taxi service - I heard an interview with the owner many months ago on radio. Strangely, I think it was operating in Mumbai?

There are - if you make the mistake (and very easy to make) of taking the elevated road as far as it'll go, when coming from Vasant Vihar/Dhaula Kuan side.

Only in that one multi-level you're talking about (near PVR), which charges 20 per hour. All the uncovered lots charge 10, with the "usual slabs".

I wish I had known about these cab services on previous trips to Delhi.

I took EasyCab this afternoon when I decided to change hotels. I think the driver overcharged me, since he said the fare was Rs. 130 for a route (near south side of Connaught Circus to near Khan Market) is probably under 4 km. I didn't ever see him turn the meter on as a matter of fact. But that wasn't a big deal really.

Putting things in perspective, when I had called the travel desk at the first hotel I was staying in to inquire as to how much a taxi would cost to carry me (without the driver waiting to bring me back) to that same destination, I was told Rs. 1000 plus tax. (Remember what it meant to put up a few hotels in the old Monopoly game? The sky was the limit then on how much money you could make )

Which one are you talking about ? There are not tolls within Delhi. I guess you are confusing it with something else.

There is no PVR in Nehru Place, only Satyam Cineplex.

And no I am talking uncovered lots only. Before acepting your car, they straightaway say that the fees is Rs.20, the option is yours.

Been to Terminal 2 (Intl.) lately? You'd be poorer by 11 bucks if you did.

My mistake, that's the one I meant. The building next to it has parking for 20 bucks/hour.

I go to NP regularly and have yet to come across an uncovered lot which issues tickets for more than 10 bucks. Try another lot next time, depending on where you have to go.
