Hi all,
I'm looking for places to enjoy reading a book in quiet, tout-free zones round Delhi. I'm doing the tourist thing -slowly, interspersed with time to read and write and just soak up the place. It gets a bit wearing having to keep on the move from touts and beggars so all suggestions of favourite havens and wateringholes welcomed. I found peace in an unexpected place off CP this afternoon..the fenced-off terraces around the huge red stone and glass insurance building were deserted as it was sunday whilst all around was frenetic pavement bazaars. thanks lightening |

As I wrote recently in another post,
"... apart from these areas there's so much more to see. Old Delhi is great and people will hardly notice or harass you. Raj Ghat (the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi), contrary to Connaught Place, is a great park for simply relaxing, very little hassle. Feroz Shah Kotla is beautiful with not a soul in sight. Hauz Khas and surrounding sites in the south of town are supposed to be great, I never made it there. On Friday evenings there should be Qawwali (Sufi) performers there." I also found this the other day which might be worth reading, http://travel.guardian.co.uk/countri...226874,00.html Delhi underbelly, by Raekha Prasad, Saturday May 29, 2004 (from The Guardian http://travel.guardian.co.uk/countri...413385,00.html ) |

Hey lightning, There is this fantastic book shop/cum coffee shop in noida. Its called Mocchas. I am going there almost everyday. I go there and sit for hours sipping moroccan tea and reading from the finest of collections.
If you come to Noida, I will take you there. |

Thanks -so far Haz Khas is fab
Hi and thanks Machadinha and Kaushiks,
so far I've made it to Haz Khas and am pleasantly struck by how it really is an oasis of green and ...fresh air! the trees and plants round the water 'tank' lake create a noticeably cleaner more oxygenated microclimate and it's all more laid back. I am seeing it on republic day so half of everything is closed down but the basic atmosphere is very nourishing. good recommendation-thanks (-expect to see me down Noida way next week Kaushiks) |

coffee anyone?
hi lightning...
you already got some great suggestions by the other members. there's a Mocha at Greater Kailash M Block also... if you happen to come to Gurgaon, let me know.. there are some good cafes here where you can chill and read. There's a great one near the Global Business Park in Gurgaon....the frappuchinos there are awesome! ![]() |

I allways found the rooftop restourants in the paraganj area to be ok for resting... but the noise from the street will not go away....
