Hello, Is anyone aware of a public swimming pool in South Delhi where one could actually do laps? I have heard they are closed for the season, though I'm not sure what season that is exactly! Thanks...

hi westcoastgal..

its winter season here gal!!! all the public pools around here are closed till march april, in case you can't do without swimming then you can try for indoor swimming pools at hotels or at at good gymnasiums, you can also try at talkarota stadium dont know if it is open but thats the pool where athletes and professionals practice.

Thanks for the reply. It seems talkarota stadium is also closed until April. I'm assuming it's expensive for non-guests to swim at the hotel pools? Perhaps I'll just have to wait...

Not to sound pessimistic, but I would avoid public pools.

The one at Siri Fort sports complex will open in 10 days or so. Easily one of the best in Delhi.

I'm hoping to start swimming at Siri fort soon... any idea if it will be too busy to swim lengths? Having not experienced an Indian public pool yet I am unsure what to expect and if it is feasible to be able to swim for 45 minutes continuously without having to stop for people chatting / playing in the pool?

Thanks
Shaun

You can bet your bank account this is going to happen . Two lanes on one side are cordoned off for people who want to swim lengths but there are always idiots who cut across from the other area. The lifeguards try to maintain discipline for a while but then give up.

Look to local clubs near you, places like Panchsheel club, Holiday club etc have decent pools and adult only timings in the evening when there are very few people to disturb during laps.

If you are a morning person then these are ideal for these clubs.

They will require a membership but I am sure there must be a few people in your friend circle who might have a membership.

Westcoastgal and Shaun, don't think about pools in sirifort or saket sports complex. They are way too crowded and the chances of doing 1 lap without interruption are non-existent.

I am off to the pool now.

Cheers

You can explore the Pacific Sports Complex, near Central School (on the road from Moolchand flyover towards Nehru Place).

The Rohini Sports Complex is in Sector 14 and has a pool. Check it out.
