Prepaid cab from intl. arrivals

Anybody knows where is the office for normal prepaid cabs to go to the city? It seems that there are also some stands for expensive tourist vehicles, so how to distinguish them?

you wont need to find it...you will notice it automatically...

Secondly I will advice against using the prepaid cabs..

in delhi, new cab services have started which comes when you call them..they are more comfortable and reliable..and would cost you almost the same as a prepaid one..

you can try call 1929 OR 43434343 from any phone at the airport..

This is not as helpful as I thought it would be, but their site: http://www.delhiairport.com/php/show...6&linkid= 433 just has this:
Quote:
Transfer from the Airport: Taxis, buses and autorikshaws are available at the airport to take you to town. Bus charges are fixed. A prepaid taxi service facility is available for all passengers. Contact the Pre-Paid Taxi booth at the arrival building.

the myth/legend far outweighs the hassle. first/second time i went to india i enterd by pakistan and nepal so i diddnt know. there was much info put up here about help/horrors.

you want the police taxi stand. its a no brainer. outside to your right and have a look for posted prices and at bottome - it says police. its about 230??? to pahargangh.

the airport is tiny. i was really surprised.

i doubt seriously you could call a cab and they would allow it inside. there is usually mafia controlling this at most airports. youd need to meet outside

The radio cabs are reliable & comfortable but they charge much more than the yellow black cabs. Go to the Govt./Police operated booth & buy a pre-paid coupon, no hassle at all.

You will have to wait till the cab arrives. My guess is atleast half an hour.

they are available in 5-10 minutes in local delhi...
at airports its 2-5 minutes to the max..

There is no Mafia controlling pre-paid taxis...they are conrolled by the police..

There is huge problem that tourists face with normal cab drivers..as they are not educated and ready to fleece you once they are outside the airport..

This is something that i have heard regularly from foreigners about the scams and all that there yellow blck taxi people run..and also they would charge extra for luggage..

Where as the Cabs on call are have literate drivers, who are reporting to some responsible people in a registered company. you get an air conditoned cab, and wont hassle you..wherever you want to go..as they run by meter that is for Rs.15 per km..

5-10 minutes?!?!? How often have you called these guys? In the past month, I haven't had them quote a wait time of less the 2 HOURS whenever I've called. It's nice to have the a/c, but the availability of these new cabs isn't up to the demand right now.

Luggage with the regular cabs is 10 rs/piece, and you pay it up front to the prepaid stand. I've had some drivers ask for more when I arrive, but just say no. You don't have to feel bad or anything. Just say no and move on.

Also, maybe you've noticed an education/literacy difference between the two types of drivers, but I haven't.

Calling Megacabs upon arrival is not efficient or necessary. You can book a pickup in advance by sending e-mail to them. They'll wait for you with a sign like all the other pickups, fixed (unmetered) price about Rs. 600 to central Delhi. Google for the megacabs web page, which has fixed rates listed for airport pickups.

Of course, a regular cab is less than half that price. People used to Indian cab drivers will find the hassle nothing special, while newbies may not know how to deal with them. As already stated above, you want the Delhi Police counter; just look for the longest line.

In the current weather, an AC car might be worth the premium price after a long flight.

I think you have never travelled in a taxi with pre-paid voucher, other wise you would be knowing the fact that, how strict is that system?

Taxi driver
tell me about the strictness..

secondly, I am not talking about my experience here, the problems are those that I have read in blogs & forums..

Fleecing is not limited to fare...there are other methods as well..

well whenerver I have called them, they have been prompt on time..and I guess when you say that the availability is not upto demand..it means that they are quite popular..and there is no harm in being told that they would not be able to make it for two hours..

Infact this shows that you yourself believe in their service and have tried to use that...

my place is quite far from the main road..so when I take a prepaid cab, I dont expect that person to drop me on the main road and make me walk approx 1 km with luggage to my place..

but is exaclty what they want to do..they say that the fair is Destination to destination and its not his responsibilty to drop me to my place..

shashank,

On the 12th June 2007 I will be arriving in Delhi airport International terminal 2 at 15:30 hrs and my parents will be arriving at the domestic terminal 1B. I need to pick my parents at terminal 1B and go to the hotel.

Is it possible to take a Delhi police taxi en-route terminal 1B to pick my parents and proceed to Hotel??

Is it too difficult to commute between international terminal 2 and domestic terminal 1B? I learnt in a Delhi airport website that there is public shuttle bus plying between Terminal 2 and terminal 1B for Rs.10/- Is that true?

Some practical suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks!

Yes there is a shuttle bus plying between the terminals, I am not sure about the timings or fare..

i guess the best bet would be to enquire about the shuttle when you land, if the time is convinient to you, you can board that or else take a pre-paid cab to the domestic terminal..
