The guy at the pre-paid counter is a cheat. If you give him a Rs. 500 note and are not attentive enough, he will come back to you and say that you have given a Rs.100 note and then ask you for more. I got cheated of Rs. 500 like this. He had used this tatic another time, but I was more attentive then and did not get fooled by him. This should be investigated and taken care of.

I am pretty sure I had this happen to me the other night too!! However as I was a little tired.....But now that I've read this..I was ripped off!! I was trying to spot where he'd put my money, but he was way too quick.
Pre-paid taxi driver was fine tho..except from telling me he was from Bihar, very poor, and whingeing when I gave him a tip for my extra bags that he needed more money zzzz. Quick blasting and then my security wallah bollocking him soon shut him up. Also with a Meru driver the other night, gave him 500Rs, then told me I had given him TOO much money and said I'd given him a 1000Rs note! Now as I NEVER carry 1000Rs notes as a rule (way too hard to change), I knew I'd been ripped off!! It's just so damn frustrating in Delhi at times. |

This can happen any where, insist for cash memo first and if for any reason it's not feasible, you can always ask the person at the cash counter - how much is the bill?confirm bill amount again..all these things will help him understanding that you are fully attentive.

Don't pay a tip, if you didn't like the Service.
Generally 10% of the fare as Tip is acceptable. |

When was that ? Even now an AC taxi from Airport to Connaught Place will not cost more than Rs. 300/- Even if you pay 33 % as Tip The total cost will be Rs. 400/- And this is for Foreign tourists. I come by Auto for Rs. 150/-

The point to be noted again here is to book radio taxi, either through customer center or through customer care office say at airport.Check km/miles meter at the start of journey, check miles mater again at the end of journey, insist for cash memo.
In India however, one can expect anything anytime and I believe Morphy's law which broadly states: "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong ..." has been coined for india only. In one of my previous posts I had recommended Meru Radio taxi to be more reliable and best, but last Friday,i.e 23/7/2009 I called at their customer care center and requested for cab to be sent at my home at 8.00 pm for Old Delhi station as I had to catch Ranikhet express which leaves at 10.40 pm. The driver called me at 7.45 pm for directions and didn't reach my home till 8.40 pm,I then called at their office and lady tried to convince me that lets hope for the best that you don't miss your train. eek!!!,I then booked cab from a local taxi stand and managed to reach station by 10.30pm. No one from Meru bothered to call me,to apologize for the inconvenience. I then decided to send email to them and till date haven't received any reply for them,so when traveling in India...you should always have plan-B ready. |

A friend of mine at Delhi who lives slightly outside the city asked me if we wanted a trusted private cab from Delhi airport to New Delhi Railway station. The cab will wait for us inside the International terminal so that there is no waiting and no hassle.
The cab will charge Rs650 for a Ford Ikon type of car. Would I be paying too much for this service? As we have a very tight schedule we didn’t want any hassle and wanted a trusted driver who will take us to the train station quickly. If we have enough time and we are hungry then the cab driver would be willing to take us to a restaurant for something to eat for the same price. I know that a prepaid taxi would cost a lot less, but am I paying too much for this service? |
