I had my tongue pierced for a couple of years and there is a big pitfall to consider before getting it done - chipping molars when you accidentally bite down on the tonguestud - can be really costly to get fixed. And getting it done bloody hurts!! I got it done the day before this 4 day millenium party and all I could eat for days was the veg curry from the Hare Krishna stall... good curry but it would take me at least 3/4 of an hour to eat a small plate.

So, sorry, can't help with any advice re where/how much? Don't imagine there would be many (if any) places which are accustomed to tongue piercings in India though.... most people I met when there thought it was very strange and kept asking me why I would do that.

Pretty far, to far for a rickshaw but not to far for a taxi.

Go to a good jeweller, they will do it for you. They normally do ear piercing - so they could direct you to one if they are unable to do it for you. A big jewelry store can pierce using some modern instruments (antiseptic device etc). Make sure you have Hepatitis B injection, before you let someone do it for you!
