Peaceful spots in Delhi

Hi folks,

We are heading for Delhi in November and was wondering if there are some peaceful spots in Delhi where we could get away from the hassle for a moment. Parks, picnic spots, some other hassle-free activities etc.

one place is the jantar mantar park, south of connaught place (only a few minutes by foot)

you can try any park/monument/place where you have to pay an entrance fee. the fee will keep away many annoying people..

Lodhi gardens is relatively hassle free.

Or, depending on where you are staying, the Buddha Jayanti Park (haven't been to this one for awhile, so cant be sure).

I love Hanuman's Tomb in Nizamuddin - no one disturbs you there, nice grass for sitting on, lovely trees and never crowded.

Seems like there are many interresting options. Thanks for the tips!

Are there any small lakes or ponds in Delhi? I can only see one in the map (in north). Or are there some nice spots by the river?

There are lakes and ponds, but you wont enjoy them that much...as they will be polluted/crowded..OR too small...

There are couple of them outside Delhi..but not worth the hassle..

Somehow Delhi is not famous for its gardens, however there are quite a few big ones...Buddha Garden, Lodhi garden are already on list, just to add, Talkatora garden, Nehru Part are other options. You can also laze around at India gate lawns..

Travelling past Purana Quila I recollect a lake in front? Seemed to be a popular picnic spot there - I am assuming it's Purana Quila, have never been there myself but huge Fort ruins above the lake. Maybe it becomes too crowded?

I have seen most of the places mentioned here and like some of these. However, to me, the safest and most Peaceful Place is the Jungle-trail of JNU Campus. Not many know that there are caves in JNU which is just ideal for those who fancy wilderness but cannot go out of the city. PSR (Parthasarthy Rock)which is also in the campus is said to be the highest point of Arravali in Delhi and deserves a visit as well.

You probably will not want to stay by the river for too long because of the pollution and smell.

I always enjoyed Lodhi Gardens for relaxation when the weather is nice.

I second the Lodhi gardens - it was the most peaceful area we visited in Delhi and mostly well kept, a mix of monuments, winding paths, big old trees, flowers and lawns. and a pond. The restaurant there is also peaceful, stylish and quite good (good drinks and western food at lunchtime and I believe Indian food in the evening.)

Aishah, I agree - a spacious retreat/respite from the perpetual Delhi chaos .............. always thought it was Humayun who was buried there though.
