overnight stay in Delhi

I am flying into Delhi on April 6, flying to Jaipur April 7, in the morning. Any suggestions about where to stay that night that will allow me to get to and from the airports in the mid-range price? I am also a little aprehensive as this is my first trip to India and I am conerned about getting to and from the airports to the lodging. Your advice in both regards would be most appreciated. I will be returning to Delhi about two weeks later and would also like a recommendation for a stay of a few days. Thanks.

I use the Prince Polonia just off main bazzar Paharganj area. It's very clean & quiet but still central to everything, they charge around RS1100 inc tax, airport pickup recommended at night RS400 if you land through the day you can get a prepaid taxi from the airport for RS200ish. You can email Polonia at polinter@vsnl.com KK

Paharganj, near the city centre has a lot of cheap yet good options available, though this area is a bit congested, but it is the cheapest accommodation available. Moreover, to and fro taxis to the airport is always available from anywhere in Delhi.

Try Likir House - check it out through Google. For a single it is 850 rupees with air conditioning. You can get a taxi from the pre-paid Police booth at the airport - however if you are a single woman travelling at night i suggest you take one from the Delhi Tourism booth which is also inside the airport as you come out of the long line of many people waiting. It is worth the extra money (not much) for safety as in recent years the police taxi drivers have not been checked properly and there have been a few cases of single women murdered who have taken these taxis. I never take them. You may find your accommodation that you book will have a taxi pickup service for you and this will be around 450 rupees. That is the safest way to go. You can PM me if you want telephone no. for Likir House and can't find it through Google Likir House is in South Delhi, a nice area and easy to go to and from the Airport.

When are you arriving in Delhi on April 6? When does your flight leave on the 7th? If you'd have time to interact with the city, then choose a central location. If it is only to catch a few hours sleep, then a location near airport might be better. By April, you definitely want air-conditioning.

We just returned from India. If you prefer staying at the airport area, try the Hotel International Inn on Hwy 8 previously mentioned. A room with bath upstairs (not basement) is Rs 1960 including tax. They have rooms for more money too, with balconies, but they overlook the freeway and all the airport noise. The place is close to the airport and clean. There's a restaurant next door. We did discover the prepaid taxi booth has variable prices for the same destination.

We stayed twice at this hotel and found it very handy if you don't want to go into Delhi itself.

Hotel near the domestic airport

Thank you, all, for your good advice. I really appreciate you taking the time to advise me. I have decided not to go into Delhi, as suggested, since I will be leaving fairly early the next morning for Jaipur. As I will be leaving from the domestic airport, which I understand is different from the international airport, I wonder if anyone has a suggestion about an air-conditioned hotel to stay in near the domestic airport, which will get me closer to where I need to be the following morning. Thanks again for your help.

The links I gave above are good for the domestic airport as well!

You could also try the retiring rooms at the airport, you can't book these up front but you never know you might be lucky!

Hotel International Inn is between the two airports. Take a prepaid taxi there. They will charge you Rs 200 to take you to the airport in the morning - either airport.
