Also whats the best way to contact the majority of the expat community in Delhi , I mean is theree some sort of news letter that gets circulated amongst the expats or is there a specific forum where the expats hang out and network ?

Someone pls throw some light on this ??

Alot of expats buy there fruit and veg in Khan market. It is much more expensive but good quality and a bigger variety. Fabindia has an organic range of spices and pulses. There is an organic food shop near the apollo hospital. I have never been in but seen it on the road.

Best way to meet expat is to join the network which meets on a Tuesday morning at the Hyatt. I seem to be remember that the third Tuesday is newcomers There is also an office on the shopping arcade.

Post was a long time ago but only just found it and as there was no answer I thought I would throw light on it.

Reviving this post for info. - There is an organic food supply shop for dry foods e.g. rice, breads, grains, muesli etc. and sometimes I think they have veggies at Dilli Haat. The Hyatt mentioned by Candyji is the Hyatt Regency on Ring Road, not far from Safdarjung Enclave.

That's the stall by the organization called Navdanya. I've bought stuff from them wanting to support their work and numerous times have had quality problems with their offerings - meaning bugs in the dried beans and rodent droppings in the rice. I don't believe their material is certified organic, which may lead to a lack of standardization among the producers and an insufficient quality control program.

That's bad news Tapestry - I bought some brown rice there once (only visited the shop the one time) also some bread and it was all fine. Mind you, I wonder about 'quality control' in India - i don't think much of it anywhere??? Here, in our local provision stores if you buy loose items much the same - bugs etc. i figure if you are cooking anything, should be o.k. just the same! Food handling and hygiene seem to be unheard of out this way - no one uses tongs it's all their fingers for selecting biscuits, figs, sultanas, nuts etc. Which brings to a slightly different aspect of this thread - I use the microwave to 'sterilize' dry foods which I am not going to cook. is this effective?

IMHO, trying to find organic food in India would be like trying to find fool's gold. It's bad enough here in the US where there is no clear cut guidlenes or monitoring as to which can and are labeled as "organic". I'll fathom to guess that in India it is even less regulated. All you will be doing is paying more for the same stuff with an "organic" label on them.Ofcourse, you could try to find an organic farm and buy directly from it.

okay here is my take:
MOST of the expats buy their vegetables at Sarojini Nagar and INA market(including Kidwai Nagar Market).
And as far as I know they are not certified organic. one of the places where one can buy some organic vegetables and grains is Navdanya at Green park and Hilli Haat. Navdanya has been mentioned above ut by far they are the easiest to reach out to.

Off topic: I see you are from HP, and you sign in as Khadoo, which is tyical of HP. Why Khadoo, I was told that it may not be a very respectable term in Himachal. is it true? or it is more of something like between friends?

What u said is very true -- the word Organic is being abused here like it is in your country . But people will still tend to trust Organic labeled food that is sold by a brand . I run a small organic farm and do have few ppl coming and taking from there but far and few .

A lot of ppl exploiting this latest wave .. consumers as usual still ignorant :-) !!

Cheers
