Orchha or Pushkar for three to four days?
I'm in Delhi next week for five days on my own prior to business meetings in New Delhi and Mumbai. A New Yorker, on my first visit to India. I'm an experienced traveler, without roughing it in the extreme. I want an excursion on my own out of Delhi for three or four days to a somewhat more sedate setting which is also less touristy. As time is very short, I've done my research and I'm trying to decide between Pushkar and Orchha. Please advise, and thanks!

I agree wholeheartedly with Wichy. Both are nice destinations but I found Orcha a better place to visit in terms of atmosphere and sites.

Never been to Orchha so....
Been to Pushkar and it's in a nice setting, but is pretty touristic. Lot's of travelers pass through and some stay for months. Though touristic, I would still go. Obviously lot's of people go for a reason. It's small, with some nice views from the mountain tops there. The lake there is very holy. I forget the story, but it's something like Rama shot his arrow in the air and where it landed Pushkar lake was formed. Pushkar's also famous for Bhang Lassis'(yogurt drink w/ ganja inside). |

I have been to both and agree that Pushkar is much more touristy, but is not without its charm. Orchha was quiter and smaller, although Pushkar is pretty small too. How's that for a sitting on the fence answer? I liked both for similar reasons. I found, on the whole, Orchha had no touts and people didn't try to sell you anything, and this was really refreshing. The residents were really friendly or paid no attention at all to us which was a welcome break. So, upon reflection, I think I would say Orchha wins my vote too.
