Old Delhi station to Nizamuddin station
How late do the local commuter trains run from Old Delhi station (DLI) to Nizamuddin (NZM)? I arrive fairly late (22:10) into Old Delhi station, and have a connecting train from Nizamuddin next morning at 07:30. I'd rather get to Nizamuddin in the evening and spend the night there, rather than staying at Old Delhi and going to Nizamuddin in the morning.

At that time I'd just take a cab or "auto" (2 seaters that feel like you are riding a lawn-mower). You may be able to get a bed in the "retiring room" at Nizamuddin. Depends on availability. Otherwise waiting is pretty miserable. Maybe someone else can comment on nearby hotel options.
