No you can not take these trains.
Walk out of Nizamuddin station and go to the pre-paid taxi/auto booth and travel to Pahergunge, a 25 minutes ride |

If you reach Nizammudin in the morning or evening peak commuting hours you can take a 'local' EMU = electric multiple unit train from Nizammudin to New Delhi.
Paharganj is just across the road from the station exit, but make sure to go out from Platform No 1. |

Just a note that yes, Paharganj (notably Main Bazaar which is sort of its center) starts right opposite New Delhi Railway Station. (Should you find yourself at the other side of the station, called Ajmeri Gate -- which is also where the pre-paid taxis stop I believe --, just cross through it or across it by the fly-over to find yourself on the right side. That is assuming the layout is still like that, it's been a while.) And yes, I'd expect there to be local trains between the various stations, possibly involving some stopovers, but I can't be sure (?)

Nizammudin is actually the starting station for the local EMU Ring Rail service. It may not be so crowded between NZM and New Delhi.

No
NZM is not the starting station, the EMU's come from Faridabad and during peak hour they are very crowded. On week ends it is ok and then you have to go out & find when is the next train... not worth it

There are several EMU routes.
1 Nizammudin as the start and end station for the RING rail that encircles all of Delhi. 2 Trains from Palwal via Faridabad, Haryana 3 Trains from Ghaziabad, UP |

From googling around, what I find is they're "frequent," LOL. You could google some more.
There's a map here, apparently (if it covers said EMU's at all). Doesn't mean too much to me, but it may help you: http://www.nr.indianrail.gov.in/images/static/nrmap.jpg ps To find your bearings at NDLS, this just covers how to find the tourist bureau there, but it may help all the same: http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/tou...bureau_idx.htm |

The ring rail and the regular EMU service are different. The ring rail has very limited runs. The regular EMU's mostly originate from Ballavpur or Faridabad and runs quite frequently during the office hours.
