Nizamuddin Dargah

Hi all

I wish to visit the dargah on a thursday and listen to the Sufi Qawaalis. It will be me and my mom, may a be stupid question - is it safe for women to visit the dargah. Any thing we should be careful about in terms of behaviour and dressing.

Dont think there is much of an issue. Its quite safe. Women aren't allowed to go inside the inner sanctum of the dargah but can pray in the main courtyard.

I (female) went there alone on an evening-not Thursday, but there was Qawwali. Felt a bit strange walking through the narrow lanes but it was fine, and I was made to feel welcome. You will have to trust one of the shops outside with your footwear. And I remember covering my head with the dupatta, I think most women there had their heads covered. You may be asked to make a contribution - buy some rose petals, or a sheet to cover the grave.

I was stared at quite a lot, but at no point felt threatened.
