The suberban trains that ply between Faridabad & New Delhi halts at Nizamuddin but the trains are not frequent. These trains are meant for office commuters and around peak commuting hour. During peak hours they are terribly crowded except on week ends. So I wouldn't count much on the suberban trains. Plus you will have to go out to buy a ticket too.
There is a pre-paid booth ouside the station. By auto or cab it will take about half an hour to forty minutes to reach New Delhi station. There are two exits, take the one towards Nizamuddin and not the one towards Sarai Kale Khan.

if you don't have too much of luggage, take the east exit of nizamuddin (kale khan exit) and reach the main road. catch any bus heading north and get off at the indraprastha metro station. you can take a metro train to new delhi (you'll have to change at rajiv chowk - connaught place). easier way is to take an auto who'll ask for exorbitant prices but if you haggle hard, you can settle the deal for 40-50 rupees. it'll take 30 minutes at the max from NZM to NDLS

I'm pretty sure there is a prepaid auto booth at Nizamuddin as well.

I guess we should ask the person the time of the day he/she needs to travel..because the conditions would vary a lot as per the time !!
