I thought that they are going to exhibit the Famed Kohinoor diamond.(was in possession of UK gov).I can imagine the bloodshed and the lives lost to protect the treasure that is going to be exhibited.

Still there, isn't it? In possession of the British Royal family, rather than the government: part of the UK Crown Jewels, and on display at the Tower of London.

It's time the Queen read Kevin Rushby's most excellent book on the bad luck that famous rock seems to attract - she may want to pawn it off ..... and soon!

That diamond carries a bad juju. It brings wars, misery and destruction wherever it goes. I think it is very safe in the hands of the British Royals .

I wondered if I was out of date, but I couldn't imagine UK/Queen giving such a thing up easily!!!!

Yes, The Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins, a friend and contemporary of Dickens, is sometimes credited as being the first ever detective story. I find the ending a bit week and contrived, but I am a great fan of Wilkie Collins: he's a great story teller, and, in some ways, harder hitting than Dickens on social issues.

But back to jewels --- one tends to wonder what all the fuss is about diamonds, until you see a really good one. So much light, so much fire, so much sparkle. Although, of course modern cutting techniques create a lot of this, i don't know about older stones.

Anyway, I'm far away, or else I'd give this exhibition a go...

The 'flower one' is actually a waist belt/band/buckle worn at official ceremonies. Doubt the Nizam would have had anything made in silver..
