Hi there
I was just wondering if someone could recomend a really nice Indian cuisine restaurant in Delhi? I'm going to be arriving in Delhi on my boyfriends birthday and was hoping to go to a really nice restaurant. Had thought about the Spice ROute but I see that this is a Thai themed restaurant, I would prefer Indian food. Please help thanks a mil Maz |

Hi Maz
Welocme to Indiamike.com Spice Route is actually classified as a south asian ..... which means its cusine is from various countries. It has beautiful interiors and is in one of my fav Delhi hotels , the Imperial. If you can give me some idea about the kind of Indian food you like , say vegetarian / kebabs / south Indian , also your budget and the area in Delhi you will be staying I will try and come up with some sugestions . You may also want to check out www.chowhound.com (international section ). chagu |

Hi Maz
You might also like to try Chor Bizarre (correct spelling!) which is is the Hotel Broadway. It serves great food in interesting, if unusual, surroundings (one of the tables has been made out of a four-poster bed) and is not too expensive. The staff were good, too, and most helpful. It's just right for a special meal, I think.

You can try "Swagath" at Defence colony market. Here you can have all that you wanted.

If you aren't worried about expense, Bukhara and Dumpukht are the two best restaurants in the world in my opinion. They are about 50m away from each other in the Maurya Sheraton.
In Bukhara (which was Clinton's favourite restaurant apparently) the specialities are the Peshawari kebab and the black daal. In Dumpukht, the speciality is the Kokodi kebab, which is an incredible dish. |

Karims in Old Delhi is fantastic, the decor's not very fancy but the food more than makes up for it. I recommend it every time anyone's asking for Delhi food, but it's because it's that good.
If you're a vegetarian the range is a bit limited, but there's a massive range of meat dishes to choose from if you're into that kind of thing. Have a look at the website - http://www.karimhoteldelhi.com/ |

Karim's damn good. Swagath serves excellent south Indian non-veg food & especially the sea food is great.
If you are going to Bukhara or Dumphukt reserve a table at least 2 days in advance & dress accordingly. Oh yes carry a credit card with ample reserve, watch out the price of drinks. Good luck & wish your BF a very happy birthday. Regards. |

You may try 'The Great Kabab Factory' that is part of Raddison Hotels. Though it is on the pricer side.

Hi Maz
You did not say where in Delhi you will be staying but here goes... 1. Karim's ...my absolute fav , is in Old Delhi , but lacks a relaxed atmosphere but the food is fantastic and it is really cheap. The taxi there and back will cost you more than the meal. 2. Kebab factory... great food , relaxed atmosphere but as it is in a 5 star+ hotel ( Radisson) you will pay added taxes and booze especially wine can be expensive . Also it is near the international airport can take a good 30/40 mins from central Delhi. If you do go , I suggest you drink beer with the kebabs. 3. Bukhara and Dum Pukht are both great for food and atmosphere, DumPukht is more relaxed than the Bukhara , as at Bukhara seating is on stools. 4. In Delhi the majority of south Indian restaurants tend to be vegeterian , and though the food is excellent , diining in any of these can be a rushed affair. Swagat in Defence Colony market is excellent and does serve non-veg food as well.If you want to try a veg south Indian try Sagar at Lodhi Hotel. it is inexpensive and the food is excellent. 5. At Hauz Khas village there is a roof top restaurant that I have forgotton the name of which I am told is excellent. 6. There is also a very good indian restaurant in the deer park at Hauz Khas which is very good ...forget the name but easy to find. 7. also all the other 5 star hotels have excellent indian restaurants , if you are there few days before the big day do consult the Delhi Food guide or a monthly magazine called First city if you have any more questions feel free to ask. chagu |

We're thinking of visiting Delhi early next year.
It would be really good to find out about any nice vegetarian restaurants (preferably ones which also serve beer ).I found this link: http://www.happycow.net/asia/india/delhi/ does anyone here have any first-hand experience of any of the places mentioned? |

Namaste,
I recommend the U-Like restaurant, The Chicken specialist, 3083 Raj Guru Road, Chuna Mandi, Pahar Ganj, New Delhi 110055 Its fabulous chiken tandoori is a must, with several butter nan, he he. I love this restaurant, and it' s not even expensive, for 100 rupies you get 2 ppl chicken tandoori and other specialities. Whenever we travel to Delhi we delight ourselves there. Because here in Benares the chicken for some reason is not so tasty as in the capital. Namaste, Eva Last edited by Nick-H : Jun 26th, 2007 at 16:33. |

As a few mentioned, Dumpukht is great. You will generally find excellent food in any of the 5-star hotels, but they will charge prices that approach being western but it is worth it--Indians really excel at high-end hospitality.
I also second Haldiram, one of my favorites, and inexpensive. The DTC coffee shops are also good for inexpensive, good, safe food. Unfortunately I have not kept track of some of the places I have eaten, but Bamboo Shoot in Noida is very good Indo-Chinese, and moderate to expensive in price. They have a restaurant in Delhi with a different name which I have forgotten. Portie |
