new years in Delhi

Hi,
My boyfriend and I are flying into Delhi on the 26th. We then thought we would train over to Varanassi (or fly) for a few days, then back to Delhi where we meet up with two friends on the 30th and plan to spend New Years there all together.
Hence, my question.... Does anyone have a fun suggestion for us for New years? We are mid 20's, looking for a fun restaurant/bar/party to have a dance, some nice food, alcohol....

I also read on someones' posting that their is bad pollution in Delhi and that time of year you are best to get out of Delhi.
We plan to go to Jaipur on the 1st January. Should we head their on the 30th instead and spend new years there maybe?

We arn't looking for a crazy rave or massive party.... Just a fun night.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Also, about Varanassi. If we leave Delhi on the 27th on the overnight train, and want to be back on the morning of the 31st in Delhi is that too rushed?

Delhi is no fun on New Years Eve.....best to get away and out...Rajasthan is a good option....if you reach Varanasi on the morning you have atleast two full days there and depending on the timing of your train,probably a third morning. Enough time for you to soak in the aura of one of India's holiest (just keep looking down though...its also one of the dirtiest) cities!.. Don't miss a dawn boat ride on the Ganges and look out for the river dolphin(Endangered)......have fun while you are in India!
