New Delhi for my first time
I need advice from you seasoned globehoppers,
Going to New Dehli in two weeks for the first time. Staying at the Imperial India -Is it nice? What should I avoid? How is the best way to visit the Taj Mahal and how far is that? Also how much is it? I've seen varying prices for foreigners like me. Tipping? Just general info. Thanks for your help. |

Hi
Tajmahal Is little far from Delhi. It's in Agra. Lot of travel agency doing Agra tour from Delhi. If you like to do it your self buy train ticket for Agra Cant.Satabdi Express is best for you. It's start early in the morning from New Delhi Station( 6 A.M ) and reaching Agra( 8.30A.M).for other train information visit http://www.indianrail.gov.in So you have whole day for Visiting Agra Fort , Tajmahal and Fathepur, Itmatdullah. Again you may take evening train ( satabdi express)for Delhi |

yep- take the shatabdi down and back, see the Taj and Red fort, and the other small thingee (forget what it's called- help!)
The Imperial is one of the better hotels in Delhi, and none too cheap!

I think the Taj costs Rs750 for foreigners... in rupees, not dollars.

Other option is, if you are more than one person, is to hire a car..there are many car hire guys just outside the Imperial hotel..
Start early morning and visit Taj, Agra fort during the daytime..withiut any rush-rush. Then move to Fatehpur sikri during the evening, spend the night there (its very quiet and beautiful). Visit Fatehpur sikri nest day morning and leave for Delhi. On the way ask the driver to take you to Vrindawan and Mathura temples.... you'll easily make it back to Delhi before Dinner.

wow- I think I'll take a page from that and use it this winter.
always wondered how to see those temples, now I know! go to Agra from Delhi by car, see the temples on the way, then lose the car when we get to Agra. |

Was looking forward to your report on the Imperial, Owen, but I think you'll be able to tough it out at the O.

Click on 'Control Panal' at the top of the page, then click on 'Edit Options', then go to the bottom of the page and click on 'More Info' (just under Avatar).

Okay, I am now starting to see how this trip will play out. My hotel has changed for the third time due to our Indian hosts. The new hotel is the Taj Hotel in New Dehli.
What do you think about this new place???? I am leaving on Friday. May the force be with me. |

Is it Taj on Man Singh Road Near India Gate? If yes...its central and quiet location.
Good Coffee room and nice club called 'Ricks' (especially on the weekends) |
