Question Namaskar Hotel - Delhi

Hi there,
I'm newbie here...
I would kindly appreciate a recent feedback about Namaskar Hotel in Paharganj, Delhi. And in particular, I'd to know if non AC rooms are provided with fan.
Last time (feb. 2004) I went to Anoop Hotel, it was ok, but now it's a little more expensive than Namaskar.I'm going to stay there on the 9th august, then I catch the train to Kalka and Shimla...
Has anyone ever booked an e-ticket on irctc website outside India?
Thanks in adv.

Hi Geo96,
Im a Newbie to this too.
I’m afraid I cant help you with the Namaskar Hotel as I will be travelling to India for the first time in Nov but i did have a question to ask if you don't mind? What is the Anoop Hotel like? I saw it on the net and was thinking of staying there when we go. Thanks.

i spent two nights in namaskar last week or so, I guess its kind of like the other places in paharganj but i liked it a lot. For 250 nice room indian style toilet but quite clean, fan but i donnow if they got ac, u should call and ask. I think fan was ok though even for superwarm-delhi. And tthe people were realy nice, fixes cheap bus rides and stuff i u want (although I never used that particular service), id make it my choice for nxt time in delhi..

Anoop is like many other accomodations in Paharganj. I was in a double room on feb. 2004, the last time I went there. The room was little but clean with attached bath. The restaurant on the roof is confortable place to spend some time relaxing from the caos of Delhi.

I'm wondering whether goin' directly from int. airport to the train station, bypassing a night in Delhi.
Landing for me is expected at 00:30 from Moscow on the 9th august.
The first train to Kalka starts at 5.40 from New Delhi railway station.
Any suggestion for the trip from airport to train station in the night with a prepaid taxi? Should I trust the driver?

Prepaid taxi is usually OK- and costs around Rs250.
An alternative is the EATS bus which costs Rs50 and goes to the Ajmer Gate side of New Delhi Railway Station.
There's also DTC bus going to the same destination.
If you've already purchased your rail ticket you can use the waiting rooms at the station with reasonably clean toilets etc.

Thank you Incitanus...
Do Buses run in the night too?
How long does it take to the train station? Is it safe eventually to take a bus in the night?

EATS bus

I've been using the EATS bus since 1976
(EATS means Ex-Servicemens Airlink Transport Service)

The buses have no particular schedule but you'll usually find one leaves the airport at hourly intervals- and they do run all night since most International arrivals are at night.

It's a rather battered small bus which takes 30-40 mins to get to the railway station via the Domestic Terminal and also drops off passengers at their hotel if it's not too far off their route.

I last used it last year having arrived in Delhi on a Lufthansa flight at 01.00 hrs.
Also on the bus was an Austrian backpacker who was going to New Delhi railway station to take the early train to Jaipur.

There's also a bus service run by Delhi Transport Corporation which also runs all night ,also charges Rs50 and also terminates at the Ajmeri Gate side of New Delhi railway station.
All these services including taxi are quite safe .

In fact most hassles on arrival are taxi drivers trying to take you to a hotel where they'll get commission.
Since you are leaving straight away they'll not bother you on that subject once you tell them.

oh....but i just heard from this guy who spent a night of horror at the namaskar...he called his room a jail-cell... Eh, so I guess checking the room is a good idea before (he had booked in advance).
