Hi friends, while browsing the Internet, I came across this site and i immidiately registered. it feels like a nice place.
so let me begin my innings here by asking my first question - i am planing to take a day's break to travel to a destination near delhi. the tentitive plan would be : Day 1: night/evening - leave delhi day 2: spend on the location day 3: morning (or night of day 2) - leave and come back in the first half of the day 3. i am ok with hiring a cab or taking state transport (cab prefered). i would not want the trip to br exorbitant (lets say, all inclusive max 5000/-). could any of you suggest a place i could visit ........ i do not want a very popular place . i would prefer something quite and nice . thanks in anticipation :-) |

There are a lot of one-day destinations or weekend breaks from delhi .
Hang in there,

This site is currently down. Anyway I've never used their guidebooks, but hear consistently good stories about them. They do a "50 Getaways from Delhi" or so title, that you might want to have a look at:

thank you shashank and machadinha for your thoughts:
shashank - I have not heard of Lansdowne before. could you please tell me more about it - as in where is iy, how to go, where to stay, what to do etc. anythinh that you know would be of a great help to me. thanks. machadinha - in fact i had the hard copy of this OUTLOOK book till some time back and used it to plan several of my previous trips. I have somehow misplaced the book now and and thus clueless about my next destination. i would browse through this link (whenever it is up and running) and find more information. in the meanwhile, if you have any place in mind, colud you please suggest. thanks a lot for your time ..... :-) |

I would suspect the Outlook site to go up again any second. It will just give you the link to their book, btw -- well, I think it does feature some handy online tips.
Lansdowne gets covered a lot here, but it doesn't mean a thing to me. I'd kindly suggest to search the forums a little, there's a lot of information. You may need to deal with alternate spellings looking for it. I know there's one really extensive thread on it, but I can't find it for you right now. Maybe look in its state sub-forum or so. |

Hi,
I also second Lansdowne. The link is working and here are specific links to lansdowne: http://www.outlooktraveller.com/dest...arenttype=zone http://www.outlooktraveller.com/dest...arenttype=zone the best way to reach there is by your car and perfect weekend getaway from Delhi. From Ghaziabad you easily save atleast an hour.

Hmmm....
Heres the deal. Anything above 200 km might not be possible in a day. while the distance is not too much 200Kms on Indian highways can take anything upto 7 hrs to travel.
Shimla, Mussourie, Kasauli , Manali etc are out. Anything beyond Chandigarh that side is too far. Lansdowne : just got back from there about a month back. Lovely place. About a 7 hour straight agressive drive. More if you stop along the way etc and you wont do justice to yourself or the place in 1 day. Suggestions from the top of my head Agra Mathura Corbett Mud Hut kuchesar Bharatpur (dont remember the exact distance) puchoo.wordpress.com Informative Travelogues from India. |

Though location will depend on your interest, anyways you have less options with just one day:
Himachal: Nahan Chail Uttaranchal: Lansdowne Rishikesh Rajasthan: Jaipur Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary |

my first question
Why not Chilla Reserve Forest? A month ago I was there. Booked Hut for my family. Nice quite place for stay. Only you will hear songs of different birds and river Ganga flowing just beside that lodge. No hotel near to that place. Only GMVN. Seen many wild animals in the forest.
Take Jansatabdi Exp. from New Delhi 1530 hours. Go upto Haridwar. Take a cab and reach Chilla which is just 8 KM from Haridwar. Auto can also take you there. Spent that night. In early morning go forest along with the Guide. It's Awesome. GMVN will provide you one Guide. Or Elephant Riding - if started. We did not avail that since it normally starts from 15th November. Evening again, take Satabdi from Haridwar and reach Delhi in the Second night or if you wish to reach in the morning take, Mussorrie Express on second night and reach Delhi 3rd morning.
