my 1st day in indi-need place chill
hey all, so i will be arriving in india with my travel partner at about 1am sep 9th and we need some ideas of where to stay...i figure reservations are a good idea but i need help on a cool spot that we can sleep off our jetlag and not be too overwhelmed (if thats possible
) so we are definetly looking pretty low budget or middle of the range somewhat close to the airport so we wont have to travel far after the flight. thanks for the help! |

You need say where you are arriving!
Delhi? Mumbai? Chennai? etc. Have a look at the hotel section of the forum in the meantime! |

'Arf!
I guess Paharganj is the obvious choice. Its the most popular place. There are loads of places listed in the hotel section. Lots take reservations by Email and will also arrange an airport collection for you if you want. Namaste Tours have a good reputation on this forum if you would like to book an independant pick up. (moderstors - am I allowed to mention them? Please edit this post of I am not!) All these sugestions can also be found using the search functon on the forum. I do like to arrange an airport pick up when I arrive. You can get your own prepaid taxi from tha airport which is a good 50% cheaper - but its nice to have someone meet you other popular places with tourists include Connaught place or Karol Bagh. You could also stay in Manju Ka Tila - which is the main Tibetan area. Some people prefer this as it can be less busy than Paharganj etc - but its a god 15-20 mins in a Taxi/Rickshaw out of town. Sometimes questions like this can have few replies from the forum because thay are asked quite often. have a go with the search function - but if you need any more info feel free to PM me. Have a good trip! Chris. |

Strangely enough, i will be arriving in delhi about an hour before you that day! I will be staying in paharganj. In the past i have booked ahead and stayed at Hare Rama/Ajay and the like. This time i will just head down there and see what i can find, quite possibly the 'my home' which is pretty cool. Generally most of the budget places are very similar in main bazaar and they all offer a similar service so you can't really go wrong. OK good luck and maybe bump into you...K |

It's a shame that Pahar ganj has such a bad reputation .Its colorful, alive and pungent, and it is said if you can handle the place you can handle India .It,s a lot of peoples first port of call on a tour around and it can be a little overwhelming ,but it's fun .Dive in

In April I arranged a pick-up online with Smyle in Paharganj. The service was great, they were where they said they'd be, and the rooms were acceptable. Nothing great, but a good reliable choice.

Isn't Pahargunj the place where Kashmiri Muslim scammers hang around to scam foreign tourists? At least that was my information. I was advised to stear clear of Pahargunj unless I want some of that. ![]() |

I've never been 'scammed' in Paharganj, though there are a lot of touts vying for your business. No need to avoid Paharganj, unless you are looking to avoid crowds and western people. It is, however, a convenient place for multiple comings and goings through Delhi.

I can recommend the area. It is cheap and interesting place to stay. Very clam and relatively quiet. It is a gated area so getting in and out is a little different than elsewhere. The only problem I had with it, is that not a single rickshaw driver we had knew where it was. We always got there but it took 2x the time it should have. There is a new Metro station near by that helps considerably.
