There's a big street in old Delhi lined with music shops. you can find everything there. I don't remember it's exact name off the top of my head.
As for your flutes, I really don't know.

If you want a top of the line instrument you'll have to wait while its made, the place to go for professional instruments would be Rikhi Ram's music in Gole Market, the owners name is Sanjay Sharma. He makes Ravi Shankars instruments and is very helpful and has been a friend of mine for a long time (I used to import instruments from India to the US for sitarsetc.com). I'd go by there first and check and see what he has....his address is:
144, Bhagat Singh Market New Delhi-110001, India. Tel/Fax : +91 11 23340496 Cell : +91 9891317177 Don't confuse this shop with Rikhi Ram in Connaught Place, sometimes the rickshaw drivers will go there as it was the first one founded by Sanjay's father but now sells mediocre instruments at very touristy prices. Another option that will be cheaper is DMS (Delhi Musical Stores) near Jama Masjid. The quality for a bansuri or sarangi will be OK there. Their harmoniums are excellent. The owners name is Inni Singh. The address is: DELHI MUSICAL STORES 1070, Paiwalan, Jama Masjid, Delhi-110006. INDIA. (Opposite Gate No-3 & 4) Office: 011-23276909 - 011-23258634 Both shops are active on the internet also and forums and rely on good recommendations. I'm sure there are some other good sources but do be careful as you are more likely to get something where you spent too much and have an unplayable instrument. If you visit either of the two I recommended, tell them Lars from Seattle sent you and they'll take care of you! If you'll be there in November send me a PM and I'll help you when I'm there....good luck! Lars |
