Unhappy More Delhi train station confusion

Hi, I know there have been a few posts about this but none seem to answer exactly what I need to know:

I will be coming in on the Jaisalmer Express arriving at Delhi Cantt at 10:26am.

From there, I want to try to catch the 11:30am Kerala Express to Agra which as far as I can tell leaves from Delhi Cantt, but on the booking site it looks like it leaves from New Delhi. Is that the same thing? Is 1 hour enough time to leave? Does the Jaisalmer Express usually run on time? And if not, does it usually run far enough behind that would cause me to miss an 11:30 train? Am I better off booking a later train even if it means I may have to kill ~3 hours at the train station? There are several others over the next couple of hours but none of them seem to leave from Delhi Cantt.

A few more general station questions - which of the station codes on http://www.indianrail.gov.in/ are for Nizamuddin? Does DELHI mean Old Delhi station? This is so confusing

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Piyush, I just realized the same thing. I think it leaves from New Delhi. So, let me ask you - how far is Delhi Cantt from New Delhi station? How much time would you recommend leaving for travel time and Jaisalmer Express lateness?

I would allow about an hour and twenty minutes by taxi from Cantt to New Delhi railway station during the day... ie from the time of alighting one train at Cantt and boarding the other one at new delhi. Can be done in ten/fifteen minutes less, depending on traffic.

No idea about Jaisalmer express history of punctuality.

Kerala Express leaves at 11:30am from New Delhi railway station.Code for new delhi railway station is NDLS.
Kerala Express 2626 NDLS to TVC..
http://www.indianrail.gov.in/
It wont be possible for you to catch Kerala express if you arriving at Delhi cant at around 10:30am.
Even if Jaisalmer express arrives on time, it would be tough for you to catch another train within one hour from a different station.
From Delhi cant to New Delhi would take minimum 40 min, not considering the delays at the stations...

I won't recommend taking the risk...you hardly have 1 hour gap..and is a stretch even if you just try to reach Cantt....

And there is no generalizations about trains, however good or bad a trains past record is, you should not assume anything...

PS: Just saw Piyush's post and he has clarified now..you have to make to NDLS from Cantt..even though the distance is less, however it becomes more difficult..

Because its in the AM and traffic of office goers flows in the direction you need to travel. So its the rush hour..!!

Dont consider any Indian train reaching the destination on time.In your case a marginal difference may be of 15-20 minutes(which is easily acceptable) is more than sufficient for missing another train departing from a different station..Untill unless the next train itself is delayed by some hours

OK, I feel kind of stupid; I originally posted this thinking that my second train left from the same station. I think I need to plan to leave at least 2 hours in between trains if I'm arriving at Cantt and leaving from New Delhi. Thanks everyone for your responses! At least now I have the station names figured out!

are you sure jaisalmer express do not go to new delhi railway station - becuz maximum trains go to new delhi station or old delhi station or at least nizamuddin station?

if it indeed does then i guess you need to just platform-hop...

Ah ha - interesting! You're right. It looks like it goes to 3 stations in Delhi:

DEC DELHI CANTT
DEE DELHI S ROHILLA
DLI DELHI

But when I search for trains going from DLI to Agra, I get a list and when I look at the route of trains on that list, DLI is never listed, only NDLS or NZM. Does DLI just stand for Delhi when you're searching on the booking site? Which station of DLI, DEC, or DEE should I get off of the Jaisalmer Express at in order to be closest to the NZM station? What about the NDLS?

Jaisalmer express goes upto Delhi station....so u need not get down at Delhi Cantt .........but the train reaches delhi at 11:10 which leaves u with hardly enough time to reach new delhi station.........its better to pick up some other train......

Yeah, I'm not thinking of trying to get the 11:30 Kerala Express anymore. Now I'm just trying to figure out which train to Agra to take now that I know that the Jaisalmer Express stops at the Old Delhi station as well.

tesser,
Are u coming to Delhi just to catch a train to Agra? Why bother, when there are excellent connections from Jodhpur (JU) to Agra Fort (AF)?

1) No. 2308 Jodhpur-Howrah Superfast (all days)
2) No. 4854 Marudhar Express (Mon, Thu, Sat)
3) No. 5631 Barmer-Guwahati Express (Mon, Wed)

The 4060 Jaisalmer-Delhi Express passes thru Jodhpur, where u can get off. Or in case the departure times from JU for the a.m. Agra trains are not convenient, all 4 have Jaipur as a common point too. Check the IR site for convenient times.

If it's any help, here's an IR map.

PS: Whatever code/station-name u give in for Delhi, IR will always list trains available from/to any and all of Delhi's five RS's. So e.g. entering "DLI" will throw up all trains from Delhi for a particular route, even if DLI itself has none for that route. Hope that clarifies.

Agreed, 2308 is a well timed overnight train from Jodhpur to Agra Fort.

also.....

2308A runs overnight from Bikaner to Agra Fort.

There are daytime trains from Jaisalmer to Lalgarh Jn (3km from Bikaner Jn) and an overnight train from Jaisalmer to Bikaner. (both journeys will take about 6 hours).
