OT a bit but the comment on Delhi reminds me that its big advantage besides history is great cultural shows. If you can find out about these through event magazines, etc..

the sound and light show at the purana qila is also good and cheaper than a day visit or vijit as some Hindi speakers would say.

The Luytens bungalows along Krishna Menon Marg and other tree-lined streets nearby are among my favorite "monuments" in Delhi. Usually they can only be seen from the road, but I love those streets early in the morning and once I actually persuaded a kind-hearted security guard to let me in just to look and take a few pictures. We ended up having tea together on the beautiful lawn in front of the house, talking about politics and life in general. Unforgettable!! I guess the resident MP was away.

I really liked the sultaan ghari tomb on my recent visit. It is about 8 km from the Qutb minar and not well sign posted. The local villagers regard it as the tomb of a pir sahib. It is approx. from the same period as the Qutb minar. You need a car and driver. I can give you the name and number of the chap I hired. PM me.
