mid range hotel delhi

Going to Delhi for 3 weeks June-July despite heat...Any good suggestions on midrange hotels that are clean, quiet and maybe around CP? Seems that apart from the $100+ hotels there are few good choices.

I have a preference for the Ajanta (I know this is not close to CP - it's at the back end of Pahar Ganj), but it's not $100 per night for a clean; comfortable room.

Cheers

I like Hotel Raja on Arakashan Rd. They have two nice rooms at 3500 per night. But you can get them for less if you bargain.

Master Paying Guesthouse. About 10 minutes to CP. By far, one of the best places we stayed in while in India for 7 weeks. Very friendly and interesting hosts. Avnish also does brilliant tours of Old Delhi. Rooms are spotless and the place has great character. We were there in December so paid peak prices $50 USD. Had to book way in advance tho' but June/July is not exactly peak time! Good luck!

Clark International was pretty good, but you have to get a room high up, off the street. I stayed for one night in a 1st floor room and the street noise was fairly brutal. I paid US$86. The room was cramped but had been recently renovated and it and the bathroom were pretty nice. Breakfast, in their little rooftop cafe, was pretty good. It's in the Karol Bagh neighborhood.

You might also check out Yatri guesthouse. They botched my reservation so I am a bit pissed at them, but it's a decent place and price is not too bad.

Grand Godwin

I visit Delhi 2-3 times a year and each time I visit, I try a new hotel because it is so hard to find a reasonably priced hotel that is comfy and clean. During my last trip, May 08, I came across The Grand Godwin on Arakashan Road in Pahar Ganj. This road has tons of hotels all lined up. The Grand Godwin (not to be be confused with its sister hotel nearby, Godwin Delux) is probably where I will stay during my future trips.

The hotel itself was very clean, the rooms spacious and clean, the staff helpfull and polite (except for the night manager with a smug face and miserable attitude). Most hotels in Delhi are very expensive. Usually a 2-Star of Toronto will be classied as a 4-Star in Delhi with the price of a 5-Star hotel of Toronto. This one was very reasonable at Rs. 1800/night including b/f. Thats about CAD$45.00 (@ 40 Rs. a dollar). This is a bargain. The hotel also had wireless internet. However, don't get a room on the 4th floor if you want to use wireless. There is WAP on this floor and your internet will not work. New Delhi Railway Station is a 5 minute walk and CP (Connaught Place) is a 5 minute ride from the hotel. The area itself is quite congested with lots of traffic and noise. But once in your room, its very nice and quite, unless you get a room over looking Arakashan road. Lots of light tends to come into the room from the street.

Overall, a pleasant hotel for the money.
