| March 2011 possibly 11-21 I am planing to travel to India for my Spring Break in March. If possible I was also going to stay the week after so then the dates would be March 11 - 26. I have the money I just don't have full agreement from my parents(I will be 19/20 when I go) So I wanted to know if anyone knows the safest place to stay(I'm guessing in Delhi) |

| Suggest you pick up a Lonely Planet or other guide that will discuss safety issues as well as cruising IndiaMike. Overall, Mumbai has a better reputation for safety than Delhi, but that's just a general impression. I think that with normal traveler prudence and judgment that the Metro areas in India are generally safe -- you do, however, need to recognize you're not in the US and adjust accordingly. For instance, western women going solo to bars and clubs is probably not a good plan. Connecting with like-minded travelers in the budget tourist areas is generally helpful and is easy to do, providing companionship, travel experience and added comfort & security. Some good accounts about Delhi are Holy Cow by Sarah MacDonald and City of Djinns by William Dalrymple. They're more about living there than brief visits, but do provide westerner reactions to the craziness of India.

| Some may find South India easier to begin with. |
