Looking for unique restaurant/food experience in Delhi...

I will be traveling to Delhi with a small group, in February or March...and we are looking for a unique restaurant/food experience while in Delhi. All of the people in the group are "foodies" and/or chefs. We are hoping to find a really good restaurant(s), or a creative chef(s)...who might be interested in creating a unique experience for this group...where they could learn, hands on, how to create some local Indian dishes. Preferably vegetarian. Even better if using local organic produce and products. Even more perfect if the restaurant's chef would take this group to the market, etc...to buy all needed ingredients... thus creating authentic Indian dishes from market to table!

There must be someone out there who can help us to make this happen...

We will begin our travels in Delhi. After Delhi we will be traveling to Uttarakhand,Vikramkyy...but from Kathgodam through Nainital and then to the Dwarahat area, where we will be staying for a week. Also will be going for day trips, including to Kausani.

Would be good to find any local restaurants in that area who might be interested in us coming to them OR would be VERY interested in finding a local chef who might come to where we will be staying, to teach this group about local Kumaoni foods and cooking.

Thank you.

Thanks Nature's Boy and vkochar! Lots of good suggestions about places that we MUST go to in Delhi!!

We are also looking for restaurants whose chef might be interested in hands on, teaching for this group...showing them how to make some dishes. Or possibly culinary schools...? And/or a chef(s) from Uttarakhand that might be interested in coming to where we will be staying(Dwharahat area), for similar cooking experiences...

Dear Dunagiri,

I doubt any hotel kitchen/restaurant will provide that kind of cooking class. That's a nascent tour category.....

One option is the Cooking School run by celebrity cook book author Nita Mehta (http://nitamehta.com/index.asp). She runs various programs from very short ones to longer ones.

Dwarahat is a small place and there hotel kitchen may welcome you in...

You could try contacting Institute of Hotel Management , Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, @ Pusa Rd. in New Delhi.

They can then arrange for an appropriate avenue for the group to experience a demo in a restaurant or another setting.
