Logistics for a day in Delhi with bags
Hi, I'm trying to figure out the logistics of spending a day in Delhi with my bags -- I'll be coming in on a train from Agra in the morning, probably the 2129 MAHAKAUSHAL EXP which arrives at Nizamuddin at 11:35am. I have a flight out of Delhi at 2:35am that night (next morning), so I have a good 15 hours in town, give or take the time required to get to/from the train station/airport and check-in, etc.
I'd like to go to Connaught Place and maybe some of the bazaars, and I'm wondering how long travel time is between Nizamuddin train station and there? And where is the int'l airport from there? The reason I ask this is, I need someplace to leave my bags for the day, and I can't figure out if I should leave them at the train station or the airport. Does that train station even have a place to leave bags? Would it be really inconvenient to go back to the train station to get bags just to go to the airport later? I'm just having trouble getting a feel for distances between everything. Thanks in advance! Jenny |

In your situation I would take a cheap hotel at Paharganj which is outside New Delhi Railway station, and about half an hour Autorickshaw drive from Nizamuddhin, where you arrive. If you have an option, choose a train that arrives at this N.D.Rwstation, so you can save the transfer from Niz. Connaught-Place is a Rs 30 drive from Paharganj, "just around the corner" from the station.
The Airport is about an half hour drive (at night without traffic) from Paharganj, or center of New Delhi. It costs Rs 180-250 by car, depending on with whom you book it (hotel or directly with a travel agent, located everywhere in Paharganj). For a 2am flight you need to arrive there at 11pm, so leave the hotel at 10:30pm. Advantage of a hotel is you can take a shower, rest, and keep your luggage safe, and get a decent meal before leaving, all at once. Happy journey. ![]() |

Hi Jenny
im definately with Atala on this one. you could get a cheap room for 200-300rs or so (maybe even less if you manage to negotiate a half-day rate) and for this you get someone to rest up and keep your stuff safe until your flight. The ajay in paharganj does a cheap airport taxi service. just go and book there in the day and pay upfront (200rs or so). |
