Live music in Delhi
Hi there,
I've booked my first trip to India in September. I am beginning and ending my trip in Delhi - I am really into Indian classical/folk music and wondered if anyone knew of some great places or venues I could go to near the Karol Bagh area? I can go anywhere, but my hotel at the beginning of the journey is there, although I haven't booked the hotel at the end of the trip yet. I am also going to be in Varanasi and have heard that is a great place for music and arts, but perhaps it would be better for me to post another thread in the Varanasi section! Any help much appreciated! I'm 22, and absolutely can't wait to go to India. Have only been abroad once and India was the one place I've dreamt of going to for years. Woo hoo! ![]() |

Hey, thanks for that!
I'll be keeping an eye on my favourite musicians Myspace pages too, to see if they're touring around that time! |

In Varanasi: check out International Music Ashram. They have weekly concerts of ind. classical music. I have been there and found it amazing. Traditional Haveli and actually a family home. The owner is also Tabla Teacher. His name is Keahava Rao Nayak. His son is also teaching Tabla and they do Sitar and other instruments there too. It is in the back alley, walking distance from Dasaswamed Ghat. If you come up the stairs from the Ganga River at Dasaswamed you turn left inside the main alley. If I find it, I will send you the exact address.
Enjoy! ![]() |

There are regularly concerts and dance performances in the Habitat Center on Lodhi Road. Maybe you can take me along? I have many times wanted to go there but never made it. PM me. When are you in Delhi? |

Hiya,
Thanks very much for that! I noticed from the link Shashank posted that the Habitat Centre was a place I'd have to head to! I'm not going until the end of September - I'm not really planning anything at the moment, but I just enjoy looking around and getting a feel for it all. Cannot wait!!!! |

check timeoutdelhi.net or pick up a copy of TimeOut Delhi from any of the magazine vendors in Delhi to check out the cultural event listings.
