Legal Drinking Age in Delhi

I just bought The Rough Guide to INDIA (6th Edition 2005) today, and in the train on the way back home, I read that the legal drinking age in Delhi is 25! (Page 150) Is this true? If so, I have a few questions.

I will still be 21 years old during my next visit to Delhi in Feb 2007.
Can I enter nightclubs/pubs which sell alcohol?
Would there be a chance to get drunk somewhere in Delhi that is a respectable place, such as my hotel or another place?

I planned on some binge drinking with some mates during a weekend in Delhi at some fine establishments, but looks like those plans have gone to hell.

Any comments/suggestions welcomed! Thanks!

most people in india don't carry official documents that indicate legal age. So, there is really no way for the establishment to verify age.

In most of the bars/pubs in Delhi you'll find a sign putup somewhere in there whicha reads " Alcohol will not be served to anyone who is apparently below the age of 25'.
Now the word to note is 'Apparently', so if you don't look like below 25 you are fine, this is even if the establishment is bit strict, otherwise as the above replies, you'll be fine.

Dont hang on in any place after midnight even tho the place remains open. Often there are raids at these places... underage drinking complicates things... otherwise enjoy your drink. Remember bar liscence fee in Delhi is quite steep so you pay many times more than the actual price of the booze when u drink in a bar... look out for happy hours too... Good luck.
