lastminute.delhi accomodation

Hi gurus - I don't want to be very much tied down to plans and don't mind paying a bit more for the flexibility - but not, unfortunately, enough to pay the best suite at the best hotel.

What are the chances of arriving in Delhi at say... 3pm, and finding 5* hotels trying to sell off their last few rooms dirt cheap? I am thinking upto 7000 or 8000 rupees.

Is it in general a bad idea arriving in Delhi without reservations? I am sure there are nice gentlemen at the airport eager to take us to their personally recommended hotel... but are there less sleazy options?

Dim in the winter, when occupancies go up.
Totally, particularly if you don't have a fallback place to stay at.

If your budget is 7/8000 you should get a decent place. Not five star, obviously.

An option would be to have a few hotels in mind in one general geographical area, land up there and see what you get last minute.

Ideally, better to book beforehand. But if you are prepared to run around a bit looking for a hotel, doable at 3pm.

Landup at Hotel Jaypee Siddartha. Its a five Star and last time I checked there cheapest room was in your range..

Btw..I also read that you were looking for some live music, what are your thoughts on Sufi music at Nizamuddin Dargah ?

Interestingly, that is the only hotel I have stayed in Delhi in recent times! I've put a review for it already, and was thinking of it as a backup.

I loved it! I went there on a Monday a couple years back; didn't expect there to be music as I heard that was on Thursdays but suddenly a group sat down and started some qawwalis (sp?). I don't even know if they were the Nizami brothers or someone else - all a bit confusing and the women I was sitting amongst already were looking at me suspiciously so I didn't ask anyone for details. I'm very glad I went, though it felt a bit odd walking into the gullies not knowing if I was heading in the right direction.
