last minute train ticket

Hi

I will land in Delhi in 2 weeks, inshallah 5:30 am. Actually there would be a train to Chandigarh at seven something, but I didn't want to by a ticket in advance as in case of delayed landing it would be a wasted money.
The question: should my plain land on time, would it make sense to go to the railway statuion and to try to get a last minute ticket, or should I better go straight to the ISBT and take a bus?

Just an observation, but even if your 'plane arrives on time you'd be very lucky to get to a train within 2 hours of landing.

OK, call me paranoid, but I would book on a later train (if you want the luxury of shatabdi, there's another in early evening).

its very difficult to say if you can make it to the railway station or not..

however if you make it to the station you will be getting a general ticket (no reservation, general bogies) and in my opinion it would not be wise for you to tarvel in general at that hour..because there would be lot of people who would be in that tarin leaving to work for neihgbouring industrial towns like Sonepat and Panipat..all of them blue collar workers..

you should take a bus, as it would hardly take 5 hours from Delhi and GT road is in excellent condition !!

Just a note - the train referred to is a Shatabdi - only upper class. I doubt there's much chance of a last minute ticket even if he did make it to NDLS.

The Shatabdi departs New Delhi station at 07:40, some tickets are held back for 'day of departure' sale, these will go on sale 2 hours before the train is due to depart, though I have no idea how many tickets and how many people may be wanting these tickets. (though tickets are already selling fast for the 2nd June, and there seems to be quite a few sales for the 1st)

But I agree, it will be very difficult to get to New Delhi station by 07:40.
