Karol Bagh - is it a safe area?
Just booked a hotel in Karol Bagh and, in inverted logic, asked a Delhitie, after the event, if the hotel was OK. His reply was that he would not know as he never ventures into Karol Bagh area as it is full of illegal activities and unsafe! Oooops!!
Perhaps I asked an extra cautious person...perhaps he is correct and i should book elsewhere.. Any opinions/thoughts will be most welcome... Sham |

karol bagh
IMO its safe..or should I say as safe as Paharganj or CP.
General safety precausions will apply to Karol Bagh (which is the case for any other part of India). |

Dude, Its quite SAFE...definitely not like what u have been told. I have stayed close to that Karol Bagh area n have found it usually safe. KB is busy place, lots of people, lot of shops. Just follow normal safety stuff, u will just be fine.

In my opinion your friend is extra cautious but this is not unusual.
So far we have not been able to tempt an Indian middle class friend, who works only a short distance away, to visit Paharganj and partake of the numerous delights on offer . Another friend, worried about our safety, has offered us the free use of a flat in another part of Delhi on our last two visits, which we politely turned down.Over numerous visits we've had no problems and apart from a friend being pick pocketed in the exiting cinema crowd, and a couple of self inflicted drug deaths, we have nothing unusual to report. Karol Bagh is close by and is probably ten times less prone to violent crime than a lot of our British cities when the pubs close. Hands up anyone on the forum who has been robbed, assaulted, or raped in Paharganj or Karol Bagh recently. ![]() |

I stayed at Karol Bagh last winter; the hotel was very comfortable and in the morning, the streets were very quiet.
Take your "street smarts" with you -- you know, keep a hand on your pocketbook at all times, wear your moneybelt, don't take candy from strangers ... and have a good time. Look for the Bengali Sweet Shops; they have some very nice goodies. |
