Jama Masjid
The senior cleric of Jama Masjid (Imam Bukhari) has been extremely outspoken since the U.S. Afghan engagement. He has indeed endorsed jihad against the West, been supportive of Bin Laden, and says he no longer regrets the deaths of September 11.
So. . .would I be crazy to visit the Jama Masjid in a couple of weeks? I'm generally pretty relaxed about the security aspect of travellingin India these days but I don't really want to test my luck either. I have greatly enjoyed my travels in Islamic countries in the past and have never encountered the slightest spot of bother. However, anti-Americanism is now at record levels in most of the Islamic world and I don't think I can just ignore this entirely as a practical matter. Any thoughts, advice, cheap shots, or other info to add on Jama Masjid in particular or dealing with Indian Muslims in general in the next few months? I'm particularly concerned about the Ramadan period as even the nicest of folks can get a bit edgy from the daytime fasting. . . |

Ramzan Eid falls on November 15 this year. The fasting begins a month earlier.
